A man has tried to strangle a police officer while shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great), the latest in a spate of attacks in France that have heightened fears of terrorism.

The latest assault took place in the eastern city of Metz on Friday when a man arrested for bag-snatching asked the officer to bring him a glass of water.

When the policeman opened his cell door, the 23-year-old lunged at him and tried to throttle him while shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

Other police officers saw the events on the video surveillance system and rushed to save their colleague, who had been thrown to the ground. His assailant was said to have a history of psychiatric problems.

  1. Any news of the identity of the Glasgow bin lorry driver, who was responsible for the deaths of several people. It is over a week, and we know the names of the victims, but no mention of the name of the driver. Is there an Official Secrets Act edict on this item?

Similarly, no names of the perpetrators of the knife and axe attacks in Birmningham and Plymouth.

The rumour is that all the perpetrators are known to have “mental health” issues -thats only a rumour.

  2. Surely the correct translation of that double A phrase that’s shouted so frequently is not that their deity is “great” but that their deity is the “greatest” – greater than anybody else’s deity, including that of Jews and Christians. It is a translation that more accurately catches the frightening supremacy that characterises Islamic belief.
