ALLAINCE OF CIVILIAZATIONS

The International Organization for Migration held a plenary session on immigration under the auspices of the 5th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations forum which started yesterday in Vienna Austria. From the IOM’s own website we learn the following details of the plenary session that both of my friends, Henrik R.Clausen and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff attended.

IOM 28.2.2013

Wednesday plenary session and take part in a panel entitled: “Communicating better by drawing on the evidence about migration – contributing to a new narrative for migration.”

Panellists will discuss the need to promote better understanding and a data-driven dialogue on the economic, social and cultural impact of migration to address widespread public concerns about immigration.

In addition to focusing on improved information, the panel will look at the role of policy and civil society in focusing attention on best practices in managing migrant integration for the benefit of migrants and host communities, rather than politicizing the issue.

The session will also focus on the central role of media in shaping the migration debate and the need to educate and engage journalists in covering one of the most emotive and complex 21st century mega-trends.

Here are few words by Henrik R.Clausen before his cellphone ran low.

hofburgI’m attending the ”Contributing to a new narrative on immigration”, just over 1000 attending, it’s a full house in Hofburg.

The Austrian government is investing massively in this conference. It must be expected to give them lots of prestige. Already ‘Global governance” is being mentioned. Also, immigration is a ”great success but that is not what we hear in the media”.

key words being ‘civil society’ – so obviously we are no0t talking about countries where the immigrants derive from.

How many people are migrating to muslim countries in the Middle East, does anyone know?

If only very few are, and only short-term, for business reasons – why is that? They have a primitive ethos and backward societies maybe? Why not spend money on fixing their own societies up rather than dragging down western societies – which is what is actually happening.
