Gardai confirm terror attack is ‘a line of inquiry’ after man is killed and two others injured in frenzied knife attack in Dundalk
An 18-year-old Egyptian man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after he was arrested in Dundalk by uniformed officers
GARDAI have revealed “a terror attack” is one of the lines of inquiry they are pursuing after a young man was stabbed to death and two others injured following a series of brutal knife attacks in Dundalk this morning.
Uniformed officers arriving at the Co Louth scene on Avenue Road this morning confronted and arrested a man, 18, believed to be from Egypt.
He is being detained on suspicion of murder at Dundalk Garda Station, and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
It was earlier reported that the alleged attacker was Syrian.
At a briefing this afternoon, Gardai confirmed they weren’t ruling out terrorism as a possible motive for the attack. They said that a terror attack was one of the lines of inquiry they were looking at.
“It’s certainly a line that we would look at,” said Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan.
