Muslim who request halal meat in prison loses in court – “can eat vegetarian”

The food at Brink’s institution is fully competent – from both a religion and health. This is the opinion of Appeal in Gothenburg and rejects a man’s application to have halal meat served.
The man claimed that the institution should serve halal meat as an alternative to lunch and dinner. He pointed out that pork is prohibited in Islam and that the same applies meat not slaughtered in the manner Muslim faith requires.
The man told me that it is also bad for his health to eat Institution vegetarian options because he is diabetic and has other stomach problems.
Probation however rejected his application on the grounds inter alia that “an inmate does not have an unconditional right to receive certain diet served, for example. Halal meat”.
