Home Office admits that it destroyed, lost or could not find ‘potentially relevant files’ between 1979 and 1999
The paedophile scandal engulfing Westminster deepened after the Home Office confessed to losing or destroying 114 “potentially relevant” files.
The lost files are part of an investigation into the handling of a dossier about child abuse allegations presented to Leon Brittan, the former home secretary.
I have learned that destroying evidence, at least here in the USA, automatically means that evidence would be bad for the defendant in a court trial. Isn’t it ironic how evidence always seems to get lost (lost is equated to “accident” by defendants but really means “covered up by destruction”) from exactly the time periods in question? Over and over again these bullet proof agencies manage to become butter fingered idiots when under scrutiny or subpoena. Amazing. Incredible. Stupendous. Truly UN-believable I’d say.
