Tick tick tick……….
I have always maintained that the Syrian response to the uprising would be a bloody one, and that NATO planes would never be patrolling the skies over Damascus (read=Russia). I’ve also repeatedly stated that the war is Assad’s to lose, and with his back against the wall, literally, he won’t go down without a brutal fight.
I will now also add, if Assad in fact sees his regime slipping away into oblivion, he will not pull a Gaddafi and risk rape and execution, he’ll flee the country. Sudan or Iran will most likely be his destination.
Syria revolt reaches Aleppo; rebels target cities
Riding a wave of momentum, Syrian rebels made a run on Aleppo Saturday in some of the fiercest fighting seen in the country’s largest city.
Aleppo has been a key bastion of support for President Bashar Al Assad over the course of the 17-month-old uprising.
The rebels also took over a third border crossing — and the second one along Syria’s frontier with Iraq — another sign the regime’s tight grip on the country is wobbling.
