Free Speech Sweden

SWEDISH POLITICIAN EXONERATED BY JURY OF HIS PEERS IN ‘AGITATION OF AN ETHNIC GROUP…….

A real feel good story. It’s clear, when it’s for the people to decide, they’ll vote for free speech and for protecting Islam, while the state will seek to stamp it out in the name of “protecting others”. Kudos to teh Swedish jury who vindicated the Swedish politician. KGS

The caption reads “Mohammed with wife, he’s 53, she’s 9. Is this the type of marriage we want to see in Skåne?”

Politician on trial for nude Muhammad poster

The Local: A Swedish politician facing charges for producing a poster depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad naked together with his nine-year-old wife was found not guilty by a jury in Malmö on Wednesday.

Carl P Herslow, leader of the Skåne Party (Skånepartiet), a small right-wing populist regional party, is charged with agitation against an ethnic group (hets mot folkgrupp).

The poster included the text: ‘He is 53 and she is nine. Is this the kind of wedding we want to see in Skåne?’.

Herslow admits producing the poster but contested the charges. He said the aim of the poster was to stimulate a debate about Islam, which he argued was incompatible with democracy and equality.

“The intention was to provoke a strong reaction among both Muslims and non-Muslims,” he said.

Prosecutor Bo Birgerson, representing the Chancellor of Justice (Justitiekanslern – JK) – the country’s top legal official, who is responsible for prosecution of cases involving freedom of speech – said that the distribution of the poster showed disrespect to Muslims.

Birgerson argued that previous cases in the Supreme Court showed that conviction for Herslow would not violate his right under Swedish law to freedom of speech.

“A conviction is important to show where the boundaries are for debate in an open and democratic society.”

The prosecution argued that Herslow should to be given a suspended prison sentence and for the posters to be confiscated.

But after deliberating less than an hour the jury, which are only used in Sweden in freedom of speech cases, told the court that Herslow was not guilty of agitation against an ethnic group.

As a result, the court cannot convict the politician when it delivers its formal verdict on March 16th.

  1. Well, that might be a Feel Good Story, but it’s not enough to make us in Sweden feel good after listening to the press conference of of the Alliance (gov) + Greens stating “we who believe that people should be free to move across borders and seek a better life somewhere…”

    https://www.thelocal.se/32374/20110303/

Basically this seems to be a move to “punish” those votes that voted wrong in the 2010 elections in Sweden. The message seems to be that if votes tries to push for a more restrictive immigration policy, those that govern us will show us that they’re the real boss by moving the other way.

I read a few political commentators that believed this was about giving the smaller parties in the Alliance a “win” to show their voters. Well, that “win” will probably sweep them out of parliament in 2014. These people seem to have NO IDEA how widespread the dissatisfaction with current Open Borders immigration policy is!

In the last opinion poll by United Minds the numbers were:

    Alliance (Change from Jan poll)
    Moderaterna: 31,8 (- 3,3)
    Folkpartiet liberalerna: 7,2 (+1 )
    Centerpartiet: 4,4 (+0,3)
    KristDemokraterna 4,6 (+0.8)

    Green-Red

    SDP: 25,6 (-1)
    VänsterPartiet 5,1 (-0,8)
    Miljöpartiet 11,4 (+1,6)

    SverigeDemokraterna: 8,5 (+1.5)

The trend for the numbers of the Sweden Democrats have been described as “rising” by all polling institutes in Sweden. This – along with the fact that all the polling institutes have stated that they adjust their numbers* according to what actual election results have shown makes me believe that the number of people that responded that they’d vote Sweden Democrats was actually above 10% and the votes for atleast one of the Alliance parties (Center) was actually below the 4% required for seats in the Riksdag.

    * They believe that come election, a lot of people will return to the parties they’ve previously voted for rather than the party they favour in the polls – and adjust their polling numbers accordingly.

Now, the Social Democrats seem set on making a Left Turn, making it likely that they’ll “steal” votes from the other two red-green parties that are currently to the left of them. I predict that those three will turn to two (in parliament) after the 2014 election. The alliance will probably turn into an alliance of One after the next election. Or MAYBE an alliance of Two (M + FP). But FP may well decide by that time that an alliance with Moderaterna is way to costly.

All in all, I predict that the current 8 parties in the Swedish Riksdag will turn to a Riksdag of 5 parties after the 2014 elections.

P.S. I post I made last week never turned up. I hope/presume that it was some sort of glitch, perhaps caused by my post being too long. Anyway, in it I asked if maybe you could send me an email to the address I use here so that I get an address to mail you tips to etc.
