In any prelude to conflict, the ‘war of words’ is a mighty indicator of the trouble that lies ahead. US President Bush has served a very serious warning to the Iranian regime, that the US will defend its democratic ally Israel. The regime in Tehran has very little reason not to believe the firm resolve of this US president, when one considers Afghanistan and Iraq.
In the same vein, the UN Security Council has to send a clear message to the Iranians that they face ‘severe consequences’ if they fail to recognize their demands. KGS
“The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That’s a threat, a serious threat. It’s a threat to world peace,” the US president said after a speech defending the war in Iraq.
“I made it clear, and I’ll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel,” said Bush, who was apparently referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s call for the destruction of Israel.
