Swedish Music Festival Sees Another Series of Sex Assaults, Leading to Festival Being Cancelled Next Year
Security at the Bråvalla music festival has confirmed at least seven sexual assaults so far of young girls, three of which have led to arrests so far.
Police and the security confirmed the two latest cases on Friday evening which brought the total number of cases up to seven for the four-day festival which ended Saturday. Police say they have detained and interrogated three suspects, but have not released any information on their backgrounds or identities, Swedish broadcaster SVTreports.
The prosecutor said that those arrested had been released after questioning and did not say whether any charges were being considered, though they said investigations were still ongoing.
Festival safety manager Ulf Bowein was asked why the sex attacks were continuing to happen despite the increase in the number of personnel and tighter security precautions. He said, “That’s a good question—ask those who commit the infractions instead.”
“Unfortunately, it’s like anywhere in the community. We have a number of individuals who commit the crime,” he added.
Bowein noted that the number of attacks had gone down in number since last year. Reports claimed that men, largely described as being of “foreign origin” had sexually molested up to 40 girls at the festival.
