Marine Le Pen has been backed by her number two over controversial comments about immigrants
The Front National leader said: “Enough now, play time is over! The children of illegal immigrants should not have access to free education. And legal migrants should only be able to send their children to school for free once they have found a job and have contributed to the French economy.”
Miss Le Pen added jobless immigrants who were not paying tax in France would have to “contribute” towards their child’s school fees.
The news was met with a flurry of outrage, with many left-wing officials saying Miss Le Pen’s proposed measures were “inhumane”.
But Front National vice-president Florian Philippot told the French television station BFMTV that Miss Le Pen was simply trying to “enforce the law,” and, once implemented, the new measures would “help boost national solidarity”.
