Dozens of protesters gathered in Helsinki to show their dissatisfaction with the actions of Islamic State militants, formerly known as ISIS. Members of the Finland’s Association of Kurdish Organisations said that they intend to continue staging demonstrations on a daily basis.
Helsinki police officers said that around 80 demonstrators gathered for the protest action at the Parliament Tuesday afternoon, following which they marched to Europa House in Kamppi.
“They had flags, banners, and they delivered speeches. Everything proceeded peacefully,” said Tuomo Tuohimaa of Helsinki police.
Protesters led by residents with Kurdish backgrounds also took to the streets in Lahti to draw public attention to the extremist Islamic group currently terrorising swathes of Syria and Iraq.
On Monday a small group of about 10 Kurds in Turku embarked on a hunger strike to highlight the same issue.
