London’s ‘Demographic Explosion’

Today, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson made a speech about investment in the future of London. He pointed to the ‘demographic explosion’ now occurring and the resulting huge shortage of both homes and school places but he made no reference to the impact of immigration. He seemed to regard the population increase as entirely welcome, something that many Londoner’s would question.   A few weeks back, in the Evening Standard, he referred to the capital’s population rise but said it was not “principally a function of immigration, as it happens, but of the simple rate of live births against deaths.” This is absolutely false.

Between 2001 and 2011, the UK-born population in London actually declined by about 50,000, while the foreign born population of London increased by over one million. The entire growth of the London population over that decade can be accounted for the by increase in the number of residents born outside the UK.  In addition, only one third of children born in London in 2011 were to parents who were both British born, while 44% were to parents who were both foreign born (the other 23% had one foreign born parent).

Of course, London is a global city and migrants are bound to be a part of its growth.  But it is not a case of unlimited immigration or none at all, the scale and pace of immigration are the keys as to whether the city’s expansion can be managed successfully

The Mayor’s attitude seems to that the city just has to cope with whoever turns up.  That is clearly absurd when the city’s housing transport and education services are already struggling and when the public are very strongly opposed to the mass immigration that was allowed to occur under Labour. The government has a very sensible policy of bringing net migration down from more than a quarter of a million a year to the tens of thousands.  It would be nice to hear some common sense from the Mayor on this issue and some recognition for the strength of public concern about massive levels of immigration.

  1. How does this square up with the the U.N.(Useless Nothing) declaration on the rights of the indigenous people or have the English people ceased to be indigenous people through the rewriting of history. Here is an extract from the declaration.
    Article 8
    1. Indigenous peoples and individuals have the right not to be subjected to forced assimilation or destruction of their culture.
    2. States shall provide effective mechanisms for prevention of, and redress for:
    a. Any action which has the aim or effect of depriving them of their integrity as distinct peoples, or of their cultural values or ethnic identities;
    b. Any action which has the aim or effect of dispossessing them of their lands, territories or resources;
    c. Any form of forced population transfer which has the aim or effect of violating or undermining any of their rights;
    d. Any form of forced assimilation or integration;
    e. Any form of propaganda designed to promote or incite racial or ethnic discrimination directed against them.

  2. Welcome to London, my home town. Believe me your welcome to it, ever other see you next Tuesday seems to be living here……

  3. I’ve lived and worked in London and can confirm that it is a cosmopolitan shit-hole.
    I remember it as a boy and what a fascinating city it used to be, but now I avoid it whenever I can. The last time I was there, I thought I’d landed in Karachi or Kabul. I couldn’t understand a word anyone was saying. I believe that English is now a foreign language there.
    The main business and tourist centres smell too, a smell reminiscent of the smells I’ve experienced when touring distant parts of the Middle East and Asia.
    London, one of the World’s greatest cities, has now been reduced to a Third World sewer thanks to nearly thirty years of progressive politics. So much for Mary Poppins, jellied eels and streets paved with gold – now it’s just burqas, over-expensive kebabs, and streets paved with er….. shit!

  4. We will just have to re-establish our capital in Winchester for a while. In 686 King Caedwalla of Wessex made Winchester his capital after defeating King Atwald of Wight. In 827 King Egbert made it the capital of England (as then was) and during his reign 871-899 the mainly still existing Saxon street plan was laid out by Alfred the Great on top of and different from the old Roman plan.
    London only became the capital after the (Norman) Conquest and now that it has become little more than Cesspit on Thames I for one will be quite happy to leave it rot and wither in its own faeces until it collapses from within, and then, if desired, it can be rebuilt and re-consecrated.

  5. When a useless and devious government invite all of this garbage into the nation the citizens are left to deal with the vermin and stench.
