Western Appeasement

GEORGE ORWELL’S ‘ANIMAL FARM WAS REPEATEDLY TURNED DOWN FOR FEAR OF OFFENDING THE USSR…………..

What once was, is now with us again.

Orwell’s preface, so rarely published, concludes with his motivation for writing it, “It is the liberals who fear liberty and the intellectuals who want to do dirt on the intellect.”

Oh yes, and Finland did lots of appeasing during the post-WWII Cold War period to the Soviets, for fear of what they would do to them, but at least they shared a very long border with the evil empire, what was everyone else’s excuse?

Sultan Knish nails it.

In a generally deleted preface to Animal Farm, Orwell wrote, “The sinister fact about literary censorship in England is that it is largely voluntary. Unpopular ideas can be silenced, and inconvenient facts kept dark, without the need for any official ban. Anyone who has lived long in a foreign country will know of instances of sensational items of news — being kept right out of the British press, not because the Government intervened but because of a general tacit agreement that ‘it wouldn’t do’ to mention that particular fact.”

  1. Those who endorse communism claim that this wonderful utopian idea didn’t work because what was practised in the Soviet Union wasn’t ‘real’ Communism. It’s as if they are claiming that Communism should be given a second chance and this time they’ll get it right and it will be wonderful.
    Control freaks?
Yes, but communism has already had its second chance and its third and so on… Maoist China was no paradise either and then there was Pol Pot’s regime, Castro’s Cuba, North Korea and so on….
Instead of trying to revitalise Socialism all the time, these Leftists would be best to heed the words of W. L. Bateman:

“If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always got.”

    Or to paraphrase Einstein:

“If you keep doing the same thing over and over again and it doesn’t work: stop doing it!”

Of course, Leftists never learn from the mistakes of history, they’re too busy rewriting history to bother with facts.

  3. Let us not get too disheartened. Appeasement is a good policy in the initial stages of war.

Most democracies are reluctant to go to full scale war, as the people know that it will be they who will have to bear the casualties. Thus a good political leader follows a policy of appeasement, knowing full well that there will come a time when the people are fed up with the actions of the enemy, and appeasement of the enemy by the political leaders.

    Step by tiny step.
