May Day focus in the US on Wisconsin march

CHICAGO — May Day, a holiday mostly ignored in the United States, was to be marked nonetheless Sunday by a protest in Wisconsin, where lawmakers recently voted to strip public workers of bargaining rights.
Organizers said a 3:00 pm (2000 GMT) International Workers Day rally would be held on the steps of the state capital building in Milwaukee, following a 1:30 pm (1830 GMT) march.
Milwaukee saw its congenial political culture change after Governor Scott Walker in February introduced a proposal to strip unions of collective bargaining power.
Walker said the law was needed to rein in a ballooning $3.6 billion budget deficit
