YLE FINNISH NEWS ANCHOR FIRED FOR DRINKING BEER ON LIVE BROADCAST…….

The Tundra Tabloids never really cared much for Kimmo Wislka, who always looked like a drunk with a hangover while delivering the morning news in English. The thought that Wilska’s beard, which looks like drool dripping down from it will no longer be seen on Finnish TV on are regular basis, is more of a relief than anything else. But he shouldn’t have been fired by YLE, the Finnish state broadcaster, especially when it employs some of the worst journalist hacks in the business, like stalinist Hannu Reme and Palestinian shill, Sanna Negus. KGS

NOTE: The article states that it was an inside joke not meant for public consumption.

Kimmo Wilska, an English-language news anchor for Finnish broadcaster YLE, was fired for drinking a beer on set. Kimmo Wilska was discussing a segment on bars being fined for breaking the conditions of their liquor licenses, and took a swig from a beer bottle (which may or may not have had beer in it) just as the segment cut back to the studio.
Kimmo Wilska said that the bottle stunt was meant as an in-studio prank and not for public consumption; it was only televised because the editors cut to the news desk too early, but he was fired anyway.
Wilska is enjoying tremendous online support, though, for what it’s worth. For example, the Kimmo Wilska Support Group on Facebook is 40,000-strong. Buzzfeed’s editors are planning to get drunk live on Ustream as a sort of protest.

  1. Hmmm. . I thought it funny but that's possibly my quirky weird sense of humour.

Speaks Engliash very well though. No trace of a Finnish accent .. not (as Jerry Seinfeld would say) there's anything wrong with that!

  2. Just revisiting my comment.

Was this a sacking offence? I say we need a few quirky individuals – a few eccentrics in the media.

I've always thought that one of the signs of a healthy society is that we tolerate a little eccentricity.

Heaven knows there's enough boring, dull, unimaginative, mainstream people around afraid to say or do anything out of the so-called normal range of human behaviour.

Maybe they could bring him back if he promises to shave off the beard.

(It's just pretty daggy – no?)

  3. Heh…. personally, some of the people they put on Finnish television would never make the grade in the US, Wilska is one of them. While I'm sympathetic about his case, I can't help be relieved that I don't have to see his mug on the screen.

Im a bit conflicted over this one.

  4. Compromise: maybe he should replace Christiane Amanpour on CNN. He's still a lot prettier than her, and would make more sense than her – even if he was drunk.
