Syrian rebels claimed on Saturday they have broken a three-week government siege of the city of Aleppo after more than 500 rebels and 130 civilians had been killed in fighting since Sunday.
But state television said late in the day the army had regained control of several key points in a military complex south of Aleppo that rebels overran earlier.
Meanwhile, a Western-backed alliance of Arab and Kurdish fighters has also scored a major victory against the Islamic State group in the northeast town of Manbij after a fierce two-month battle.
