Of course Obama and the rest of the failed mediocrity in the West are happy over the outcome.

Erdoğan blamed the uprising on Fethullah Gulen, a retired Islamic cleric and former political ally, who once had a sizable following in the Turkish police, judiciary and military. Erdoğan, who has purged the police and judiciary of reputed Gulen sympathizers over the past two years, had been due to hold a meeting of the body overseeing the military, the High Military Council, and there were reports he was planning oust anyone still linked with Gulen.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed he won’t hand Turkey over to “occupiers,” amid reports that dozens have been killed in an attempted army coup.

Mr Erdogan insisted he would crush the violent act of “treason” after touching down in Istanbul to hundreds of cheering supporters.

The president, whose whereabouts were unknown for the first few hours of the coup, arrived to find the city in chaos. 


According to Turkish media, the military said it had taken action to: “reinstall the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms, to ensure that the rule of law once again reigns in the country, for the law and order to be reinstated”.

The military statement said “all international agreements and commitments will remain. We pledge that good relations with all world countries will continue”.

Several world leaders, including US president Barack Obama UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, have issued statements calling for calm.
