Spain welcomes back Jews after 500-year exile

More than five centuries after Jews were banished from the kingdom of Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, lawmakers on Thursday righted an “historical mistake” and approved a law to allow their descendants win dual citizenship.
The measure, championed by the centre-right government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, grants dual citizenship rights for Sephardic Jews, those descended from Jews expelled from Spain in 1492.
“This law says much about who we were in the past and who we are today and what we want to be in the future, an open, diverse and tolerant Spain,” said Justice Minister Rafael Catala in parliament.
The Spanish Inquisition beginning in 1478 under Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand brought about widespread expulsions, executions and forced conversions of thousands of Muslim and Jewish people as a method of asserting the dominance of Catholics.
NOTE: While not downplaying the kinds of atrocities that ruled the day back in the 1400’s, conveniently missing from the article at The Local is the fact that Spain had just reconquered its country back from the muslims after hundreds of years of islamic rule and cruelty. More people were murdered and forcibly converted to Islam during their occupation of Christian land then were murdered in the multiple Inquisitions.
Just take a look at how the crusades, as brutal as they were, and highly destructive to the Jews that were in their way (we can never downplay what was done to them, absolutely horrid) they pale in comparison to the number of jihad attacks and wars against Christian Europe.
