These are the words of wisdom of former US ambassador, John Bolton, concerning US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice’s recent intitiative to the Middle East. I happen to agree with Bolton who explains it like this;
“the Arab-Israeli conflict was “not a priority,” adding: “I don’t see linkage to Iraq, and Hamas and Fatah are in a state of civil war.”
His reasoning is plain and clear for all to see. There are far more pressing conflicts around the world that are in dire need of attention, such as Darfur and Somalia for starters, than the Palestinian-Israeli issue. The Palestinians have commanded center stage for the better part of thirty years, and have for last fifteen years squandered and scuttled every attempt to bring closure to the conflict.
That the Palestinians are now in the midst of a civil war, there is nothing to do until one side is left standing, and then wait for a sign of a willingness to end the conflict with Israel. Something the Israelis have been wanting to do since the signing of the Oslo Accords on the White House Lawn.
There is simply nothing left to do but wait….and wait….and… More here. *L* KGS
