Gang rape in southern Finland: Police request assistance identifying suspects

A woman says she was raped by several men speaking a foreign language in the southern city of Hyvinkää on July 27, and police are asking for the public’s help.


Finnish police are enlisting the help of the public in their investigation of a gang rape in the southern city of Hyvinkää, 50 kilometres north of Helsinki, two weeks ago. Anyone with information that could help in the identification of the three men captured in the surveillance camera image above is asked to contact the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department.


The police say the crime took place in the early morning of July 27 in a park near the Hyvinkää police station and municipal building, at street address Riihimäenkatu 20.


The victim says each of her assailants spoke a foreign language.


Images from surveillance cameras show a group of three men moving around the area during that time. At 2:26 am they were recorded walking from the Jussitori square towards the street of Hämeenkatu, and at 2:32 am they were captured walking from Siltakatu towards Riihimäenkatu.


The police have released a still image from the surveillance camera footage and have asked the public for its assistance in identifying the men.
