No thanks to this jackass who plays on the national team (Finland) and is an ethnic Kosovar but opted to sit out the game. Dual loyalties much?

Finland falter in historic first Kosovo match

Finland’s footballers kicked off qualification for the 2018 World Cup with a disappointing 1-1 draw with Kosovo. The match was Kosovo’s first ever competitive game, and saw thousands of the country’s fans descend on the south-western town of Turku to witness history being made.

Finland drew with Kosovo on Monday night in their first match of the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The game was also Kosovo’s first ever competitive match, and the team’s composition remained unclear until hours before kick-off as the international governing body Fifa decided on applications from six players with roots in Kosovo to switch nationality.

In the end all six applications were granted, five from players who had previously played for Albania and one from Valon Berisha, who had represented Norway. Finland’s preparations were also disrupted when Kosovo-born midfielder Perparim Hetemaj announced he would not play against the country of his birth, sitting out this historic first encounter.

Kosovo started energetically, hitting the bar with a volley from Leart Paqarada, but it was Finland who went ahead in the 18th minute through Paulus Arajuuri. Kosovo defended poorly at a corner and the ball fell to Arajuuri who was unmarked 5 metres from goal.
