Late on Monday evening was over a dozen cars on fire in many different places in Malmö.

Hyacinth Way, Hyllievång road, Zenithgatan. Delsjö Way, Arkitektgatan and Eriksfältsgatan are just some addresses that were hit in the continuing wave of landscaped car fires.

The first fires were reported to the police and emergency services around 22:45. There were three cars set on fire inside a garage at the Hyacinth Way and a car that was burning outside on Zenithgatan a few minutes later.

Then a rain of alarms were set off. A car was burning outside on Hyllievång road, four burned on Delsjö street, one on Arkitektgatan and one on Eriksfältsgatan. Emergency services had to help right from Vellinge to fail with the workload.

A man in his 20’s was arrested Sunday night in Malmö after police found gas cans and a hammer to smash the glass with in his car. He was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit serious damage.

The witness: “I’m afraid”

The large number of fires also forces civilians to intervene – even though they are frightened by what is happening.

One of them is Levente Csiki. He saw flames of the arson from his window and had to run down and put it out.

– I ran down and put it out with a fire extinguisher, he says.

– Then we fetched water and threw two buckets.

But even though he did not hesitate to intervene, provided he is not indifferent to what is happening in Malmö.

– It’s bullshit. My car is here. It can explode and may burn up. It happens everywhere. What is happening in Malmö? Something must be done, says Levente Csiki.

Are you afraid of yourself?

–  I’m scared. Tomorrow I do not know if I can get to my car.
