An open invitation to a birthday party for independent Finland 6.12.

As you certainly know, the fatherland has aged another year. Almost one hundred years has passed since our father decided to rule in their own country, and there is no reason to regret the decision. Independent Finland has been for the Finns the best place to live, and still is.

Finland’s independence is not a given but the result of the Finnish efforts and work. Our country is built on countless generations of work, and it has been defended at great sacrifice. Without them, there would be Finnish. Finland’s independence is a small miracle, and it is indeed a reason to celebrate.

The sixth day of December is the day of the Finns, Your days. So come join them in celebrating Finnish Independence Day and join compatriots men and women in a blue and white parade. 612-march is independent of political parties and non-governmental organizations, which is backed by a number of patriots. In addition to the torch procession, the program includes speeches suitable to the theme.

All are welcome to celebrate the good mood of our country’s independence and to remember our ancestors’ work and sacrifice on behalf of the freedom of Finland. On Independence Day, we can be pleased and proud of our Finnish roots, and nearly one hundred years of statehood. Love the fatherland, national community and team spirit are a huge intellectual resource, which has strengthened our country and our people in times of distress and in times of peace. Together we are strong!

Long live Finland!

Anarchists hit marchers/police

Pageantry and pomp inside the presidential palace, police and protesters outside

Leading circulation daily Helsingin Sanomat reports Monday morning that Helsinki police resorted to using compressed air riot weapons to contain protesters attempting to disrupt a torchlight procession by the nationalist 612 movement.

According to HS, the protesters engaging in the counter-march pelted police with rocks and in some instances with bottles, whereupon police fired at the demonstrators. Detective Chief Inspector Toni Uusikivi told HS that the weapon used was an FN 303 riot gun and that it was non-lethal, causing mainly pain and bruising.

Police held more than 130 people following the clashes, most of whom were released overnight, while the rest were turned loose Monday morning. Esa Pennanen of the Helsinki police department said that some of the detainees would be questioned Monday morning but thought it was unlikely that anyone would be arrested.

Commenting on the reports, President Sauli Niinistö told national broadcaster Yle that it seemed that the protesters were “misbehaving just for the sake of it, rather than for some principle.” Niinistö particularly condemned protesters for targeting the police.
