Lapland has a record number of asylum-seekers, tells Pohjolan Sanomat and Lapin Kansa.
The number of asylum-seekers ARE burdening in particular Kemi police officers, but also asylum seekers are being received in Rovaniemi the whole time as well.
Chief Detective Inspector Henri Tolonen of the Kemi police precinct suspects that asylum seekers are systematically being guided to come to Finland from Sweden .
The increased flow of asylum-seekers is also reflected in reception centers, for example, the number of them in Kemi has increased during the autumn to 300.

“They don’t do it officially but processing times of asylum applications have been shortened during Päivi Räsänen’s tenure as the minister of interior. In practise, this means that Sweden is full and not capable of handling any more asylum seekers. The government is worried about the rise of Swedish Democrats in the polls and is trying to keep the number of asylum seekers lower than they actually are. I believe there has been contact with Finnish authorities at some level, at least. “
