 Police: Ikea suspect came from Eritrea

UPDATED: Police have revealed that at least one of the two suspects accused of killing a mother and a son at an Ikea store in Västerås, north west of Stockholm, came from Eritrea.

Västerås police chief Per Ågren told a press conference in the town that his team had arrested two people over the violence and said that one was from Eritrea.

He said that the African-born suspect, 23, had already been questioned but added that a second 35-year-old man linked to the attacks remained in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspects knew one another, he said, and were living at the same accommodation complex for asylum seekers. But he did not confirm whether or not the second suspect was also from Eritrea.

Meanwhile Ågren said that the shoppers who were stabbed to death at the Ikea store in the central Swedish town of Västerås on Monday were a mother and son, aged 55 and 28.

“There are no political overtones in the investigation,” he added.

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Eva Moren also told Swedish media at the conference that the stabbings were unlikely to have had a political or personal motive.

“At the moment there is nothing to suggest that there is any connection between the suspects and the victims.”

She confirmed that a knife had been used in the attack and said that police had found the suspected weapon.

Griffin Ikea killers newly arrived immigrants from Eritrea

HOME. One of the two African men who were arrested yesterday on suspicion of double murder at Ikea in Västerås is a newly arrived immigrant from Eritrea. He lives with his suspected accomplice in an asylum accommodation in Arboga.

The man, a 23 year old, living in an asylum accommodation in Arboga and came under the civil registry to Sweden on July 13 this year.

The identity of the 35-year-old man who was seriously injured during yesterday’s double homicide, and that probable cause is suspected of murder is not yet known. Video images from the scene of the crime is clear, however, that he is an African immigrant background. According to police sources Aftonbladet the 35-year-old was living in an asylum accommodation in Arboga, together with the now arrested Eritrean.

The motive remains unclear

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Eva Moren has only limited information to disclose right now.

– Today we dedicate ourselves to go through the witness information that has come in and the rest of the evidence that has come in through the investigation of the crime scene, she says to Free Times.

Moren would not comment on the perpetrators of any motives, or there may have been about a terrorist crime.
