The parents of a teenager groomed by her school friend to join Islamic State say she was harassed over the phone before disappearing to Syria.

An exclusive investigation by Vice News called Groomed by Islamic State has had rare access to the family of Amira Abase, 16, who fled her home in East London with two friends in February.

Her mother, Fetia, speaking for the first time in the 20-minute documentary, claims her daughter was constantly harassed on the phone by unknown individuals and even asked for a new mobile.

She said, in broken English: ‘She asked me I don’t want to contact anyone I want to change my number.

‘She said “just leave it mummy, I just want to change my sim card or my mobile.” Someone was pushing her.’

The housewife says the calls started after her daughter’s school friend Sharmeena Begum, 16, fled to Syria in December last year, when she became one of the youngest British jihadi brides in IS.
