A terrorist jailed for 12 years in America has returned to Britain after being released from prison.
Babar Ahmad was sentenced in the US last year for helping support terrorist groups online.
He was extradited after the UK authorities failed to prosecute him but US prosecutors put him on trial for supporting the Taliban.
Ahmad, 41, spent 10 years behind bars in the UK before losing a protracted battle against extradition to the US.
The Home Office said he used every opportunity to ‘frustrate and delay’ the extradition process but was now free to return to the UK.
He was sentenced in July last year after pleading guilty to setting up a group of pro-jihadi websites to raise money, recruit fighters and get supplies for the Taliban and other terror groups.
But he reportedly returned to the UK in secret last week and is said to have celebrated the Muslim festival Eid with his family in south London.
Counter-terror officers at Scotland Yard will now consider measures to monitor him.
