He’s unfortunately correct.
I’m not a conspiracy minded person, but it’s not a leap to assume Russia’s Putin is fighting the jihad at home, and aiding it in some measure abroad. Keeping the West off balance always benefits the Kremlin. The geo-political void made by Obama has only encourage the West’s traditional enemies to plow ahead.
ISIS and Russia have made the world as dangerous as it was during WWII, says Fallon: Defence Secretary issues stark warning as he announces priorities for next five years
- Michael Fallon blamed Russia and ISIS for the world’s volatile state
- He said it was crucial UK was able to respond to crises on ‘multiple fronts’
- Defence Secretary said Russia ‘agitates Ukraine and threatens Nato’
- Prince Charles compared Vladimir Putin to the Nazi leadership last year
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the world is now as dangerous as it was during the years of the Nazis due to the threats posed by Russia and ISIS
The Defence Secretary has said the world is now as dangerous as it was during the years of Nazi Germany due to the threats posed by Russia and Islamic State.
In a stark warning, Michael Fallon said it was crucial that Britain was able to respond to more than one crisis on ‘multiple fronts’ in the future.
Announcing his defence priorities for the next five years, he said: ‘The incredible VE Day 70 celebrations recalled the triumph of the forces of freedom over the forces of fascism. We need no reminding that the world today remains an equally dangerous place.
‘In the Middle East, [IS] barbarians perpetrate atrocity after atrocity while, on the fringes of Europe, an aggressive Russia agitates against the Ukraine and threatens Nato.’
Reaffirming the Conservative Party’s commitment to defence, Mr Fallon stressed: ‘It is critical for us to remain ready to respond to concurrent crises on multiple fronts in the future.’
He said the Government would do ‘everything in our power’ to guarantee the safety, security and prosperity of Britons.
The Defence Secretary’s comments come after Prince Charles compared Vladimir Putin to the Nazi leadership while on a royal tour of Canada last year. In a withering verdict on the Russian president’s actions in Ukraine, the prince told a woman who lost relatives in the Holocaust: ‘And now Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler.’
Mr Fallon said he would take a leading role in drawing up a new Strategic Defence and Security Review – which will set out potential threats to the UK – due to be published in the Autumn.
