The irony of this story being, the Finnish parliament just recently beat down a measure seeking to end forced studies of Swedish in Finnish schools. This shows that in the end, the free market knows what the people want better than any politician.
English increasingly common in Finnish streets and culture

Finns are routinely exposed to English-language snippets, phrases and brand names in their everyday surroundings, not to mention the dialogue of television shows and films. Sini Kiuas, a teacher of creative writing, says she is not bothered by the proliferation of English, but that she prefers searching for Finnish terms for Anglicised expressions.
