Norwegian columnist takes swipe at Finnish doping history – “In Sweden and Norway, there is no systematic use of doping”

Norwegian Dagbladet Magazine columnist Esten O. Sæther, Finland’s loss of success in World Cup cross-country skiing is a sign of the purity in the sport.

– I see it as a healthy sign of the cross-country skiers from Sweden and Norway dominating, Sæther says to the Swedish Journal Express.

In World Championship Cross-country skiing 11 gold medals of the 12 possible ended in Falun,  either with Sweden or Norway.

– The Norwegian-Swedish dominance and German wins mean that the public following the sport and the markets do not tolerate the use of doping, Sæther writes in his column .

The Norwegian columnist mentions in the article other countries – such as Finland – the dark history of doping.

– Systematic doping in international cross-country skiing has traditionally been only in Russia, Finland, Italy and Austria, Sæther says.

Instead, Sweden and Norway, were pristine.

– In Sweden and Norway, there is no systematic doping use. And it never has been.
