Gunman in Ottawa attack prepared video of himself
Police say video is evidence that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau’s attack was driven by ‘ideological and political motives’
Canadian police say a gunman who shot and killed a soldier at the national war memorial and then stormed Parliament before he was gunned down had prepared a video recording of himself prior to Wednesday’s attack.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commissioner Bob Paulson said in a statement Sunday that the video is “persuasive evidence that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau’s attack was driven by ideological and political motives.”
A detailed analysis of the video is being conducted. Paulson says they cannot release the video at this time.
Paulson says a knife carried by Zehaf-Bibeau was taken from his aunt’s property in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, and they’re looking into how he got his gun.
Zehaf-Bibeau’s deadly shooting spree in Ottawa this week was “driven by ideological and political motives,” funded by money saved through work in the Alberta oil patch, and was preceded by the killer making a video of himself, the RCMP said Sunday evening.
