Tour operator cancels holiday packages to Israel
Finland’s largest tour operator Aurinkomatkat says it has cancelled package holidays to Israel for a six-month period because of the instability in the region.
The tour operator said that the cancellations affect all holiday tours to Israel and will be in force from October until March 2015.
Aurinkomatkat generally flies holidaymakers into Eilat, a popular resort bordering the Red Sea in southern Israel.
According to communications chief Annina Metsola the reason for the cancellations is the instability in Israel, which has resumed hostilities with the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza.
On Wednesday Hamas’ militant wing warned international airlines to avoid flying into Israel’s Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. The orgainsation said it planned reprisal strikes on the airfield after family members of a high-ranking militant leader were killed in an Israeli sir strike.
Finland’s national airline Finnair said that it will decide Friday on whether or not to suspend flights into Tel Aviv.
