Foreign Office minister Baroness Warsi quits in protest at government policy on Gaza

Foreign Office minister Baroness Warsi today dramatically resigned in protest at the government’s policy on Gaza.

The first Muslim woman to serve in the Cabinet posted a message on Twitter announcing she ‘can no longer support Govt policy on #Gaza’.

The loss of the former Tory party chairman will put pressure on David Cameron, who has refused to say whether Israel’s actions in Gaza are ‘criminal’.

Baroness Warsi announced her shock decision to resign on Twitter this morning

The first Muslim woman to serve in the Cabinet had been the senior minister of state at the Foreign Office since September 2012

In a statement posted on her Twitter feed, she said: ‘With deep regret I have this morning written to the Prime Minister & tendered my resignation. I can no longer support Govt policy on Gaza.’

Baroness Warsi was the senior minister of state at the Foreign Office and faith minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government.

There were no further details given about the reason for her decision to resign, or the timing.

Just last night she attended a ceremony in Westminster Abbey to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

However, it came as displaced Gazans began returning to their homes from UN shelters after the latest ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect.

The 72-hour truce, which started at 8am local time (6am BST), was agreed by both sides in the month-long conflict which has seen hundreds killed.

  1. Yet again we see that no matter how moderate a Muslim is, their first allegiance will always be to Islam.

Warsi should know that UK policy towards Gaza, and the entire ME, is coordinated with the EU and the USA. Thats how it is. Yet she resigns, showing yet again that for a Muslim, Islam will always come first.

    Good riddance.

  2. And good bloody riddance! This Taqiyya peddling traitor was on the skids anyway so this is nothing more than the accomplished drama queen baling out for personal publicity purposes before being pushed.
And the upside is that we will no longer end up involuntarily vomiting over our bacon and eggs when opening a newspaper and being faced with photographs of her handing out millions of our tax monies to her extended family in Pakistan (aka The World’s Biggest Lunatic Asylum) with that gurning clown ‘It’s nothing to do with Islam’ Cameron standing next to her like a spare bridesmaid (or something else)at a wedding. Hallelujah 🙂 🙂 :) 

  3. My thoughts exactly. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  4. jUst been watching local tv and a stupid bishop of Wakefield joined the Wakefield imam who said that the whole of the UK was with Warsi…… no, we’re normal people and not islamists. The UK government (every one except UKIP) is actually to side with any Muslim government so don’t know why Warsi walked out………clearly not enough citizens were being killed in Syria for her liking……..ah yes, that’s just Muslim on Muslim violence……quite acceptable, for them.
