“Green Party politicians need to be raped by Muslim immigrants probably only so that they come to their senses”, Jussi Halla-aho wrote some years ago in his blog “Scripta – Thoughts on a declining West.” For these and many other provocative remarks in particular on migration issues the 43 year-old politician of the True Finns (PS) is known far beyond the borders of his northern home.

With a doctorate in linguistics is one of the most hated in the press politicians. Popularly, however, he’s popular. In the election to the EU Parliament, he was elected with more than 80,000 direct votes to become the second most popular politician in the country two weeks ago – and with an election budget of only 5,000 euros. Now he represents the True Finns together with Sampo Terho, 36, in the ECR Group, which also includes the British Conservatives. In an interview with the YOUNG FREEDOM, he talks about a possible collaboration with the AFD, the Ukraine-conflict and multi-cultural society.

JF: Are you satisfied with the performance of the True Finns and having your personal results at the EU Parliament elections two weeks ago?

Halla-aho: The good personal election result, of course, makes me very happy. As it will become clear that many Finns appreciate my work. As far as the overall result of the True Finns, but I’m not so happy. Our potential support in opinion polls at 18 percent. But we are still only at 13 percent. Sorry, We could not convince all of our potential voters from the fact that the EU elections are indeed important and affects each individual. We now need to look in the mirror and ask ourselves whether we have actually acted in all policy areas as we promised the voters before the Finnish Parliament elections 2011.

JF: What is it like to work in a parliament that they actually refuse?

Halla-aho: Whether I like the EU or not does not change the fact that most of the laws that affect Finland, be decided there. It is therefore important that also forces that oppose further centralization in the direction of Brussels, are represented in the European Parliament.

“There is no EU identity”

JF: Is the EU policy your true calling or do you want to compete in the spring of 2015, the Finnish parliamentary election?

Halla-aho: I do not think it likely cancel the legislative session in the European Parliament and to return to Finland. However, it is very likely that I will run again in 2019 in the Finnish parliamentary elections.

JF: If you reject the EU, what is the alternative? Or is it just political rhetoric?

Halla-aho: you must not think that there would have been no life before the Treaties of Maastricht and Lisbon or before the adoption of the Schengen area. We refuse to centralize power over national instances. Because this reduces the possibility of the individual European nations to influence the decisions that affect them themselves. Europe is both linguistically and culturally, to function as a federation to a much too heterogeneous continent. There is no EU identity and interests of the individual Member States are very different. The True Finns are not against the EU if a cooperation all Member States is really beneficial.

JF: What do you think of Marine Le Pen, Nigel Farage and Geert Wilders?

Halla-aho: I am very happy that nationally-minded and critical immigration parties were able to celebrate such a success in almost all European countries. I respect the hard and thankless work of Le Pen, Farage and Wilders, although we can not sit in the same group in the EU parliament and their parties for various reasons.

JF: What do you think about the alternative for Germany (AfD), will sit with you possibly in the same fraction (ECR)?

Halla-aho: I have a very positive image of the AfD. Their positions on the development of the EU or immigration are very close to the settings of the True Finns. I hope that cooperation in the same group is possible with the AfD.

“Europe can not afford mass immigration”

JF: What topics are you and the True Finns in the EU Parliament important?

Halla-aho: I have always drawn attention to the problems and horror scenarios related to immigration and multiculturalism. Uncontrolled immigration wave, a religious – especially an Islamist – radicalism and ethnic tensions are problems in Europe. Therefore, a common European solution must be found.

JF: And beyond that?

Halla-aho: An important question is whether the EU will continue to pursue its development towards a debt, solidarity, and transfer union, in the pay of the north to the problems of the South. Moreover, immigration issues are becoming increasingly important. Greece, Italy and Spain call for load balancing, but that does not solve the real problem: An economically battered Europe has certainly no capacity, hundreds of thousands or even millions, mainly unskilled immigrants to provide working. And such a Europe can not afford these crowds to preserve in the suburbs of their cities themselves.

JF: What do you think are currently the biggest problems in Finland?

Halla-aho: Especially his poor competitiveness and relocation of local industry abroad. But the bad immigration policy, which is reflected in the fact that so many citizens are unemployed with an immigrant background. This degrades the overall situation in Finland. The racism hysteria has put something, since the True Finns and their critical immigration deputies have established themselves in politics. The press was forced to talk to us and not only to write about us. This has changed the views of many parties: For fear of losing their electorate, they have their own views on checks on immigration policy and even closer to ours.

“I am personally not set religious and relatively liberal”

JF: How do you think the Ukraine-conflict will affect the future of the EU?

Halla-aho: The crisis in Ukraine has made it clear how difficult it is to find a common sound in European foreign policy. Russia has recognized this weakness and exploited for themselves. The role of NATO has intensified especially in the Eastern European countries.

JF: How are drawn in the future the limits? Will it be your opinion, more likely to find in a conflict between Europe and Islam or between the secularized Conchita Wurst-Europe and a conservative Russia?

Halla-aho: There are certainly many borders and fronts simultaneously. I personally am not religious and set relatively liberal when it comes to sexual minorities. Secularism and equality of the people are in my opinion important European company philosophical values. “Multikulturaismus,” the ideological worship of otherness and the emphasis on the diversity of minorities, gnaw on European egalitarianism and counterproductive: they prevent the integration of minorities into society.

JF: How are you with the harassment to which you have been exposed in recent years due to their positions in the press dealt with?

Halla-aho: I have good nerves. In addition, I have seen in the elections that many Finns, who I mentioned problems consider important. In addition, people appreciate persistence and stability in politics. The support from people carries immensely
