Danes can go pack their suitcases now that Sudan has lifted its longstanding sanctions against Denmark.
The Central Bank of Sudan reported on Wednesday that all banks had been ordered to lift restrictions, according to the German news agency DPA.
In 2008 Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir banned Danish imports and denied entry to Danish citizens in response to Jyllands-Posten newspaper’s re-printing of the Mohammed cartoons.
“We tell you that no Dane will foul the land of Sudan again,” Bashir reportedly said at the time, according to Al-Jazeera.
Danish goods have previously found their way around the ban and reached Sudan through Egypt and the Gulf of Aden.
