Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz donates $30m to U.S. troops to help fund study into PTSD as they leave Afghanistan
The CEO of global coffee chain Starbucks is donating $30million to benefit the rehabilitation of U.S. war veterans.
Howard Schultz’s contribution has been earmarked for research into brain trauma and PTSD suffered by thousands of returning soldiers.
This follows Shultz promise last year to hire at least 10,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.

A council has been slammed for spending a staggering £1,000 to translate one tenancy agreement into Urdu.
Crawley Borough Council splashed the cash to translate the agreement between one tenant and the council, saying Urdu was ‘more expensive to translate’ than other languages.
The council was criticised in 2012 after spending £628 translating its 12-page quarterly magazine Homelink into Urdu after just one tenant called to complain they couldn’t read it.

The first ever prosecutions under the Female Genital Mutilation Act have been announced by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Dr Dhanoun Dharmasena from the Whittington Hospital in North London and another man Hasan Mohamed, are to be charged in connection with an incident following a birth at the hospital in 2012.
It is alleged that the doctor carried out the procedure after being encouraged and aided by Mr Mohamed.

MEMBERS of the Muslim community have been left “upset and angry” by West Berkshire Council’s decision to allow a new supermarket to sell alcohol next door to Newbury Mosque, Pound Street.
The secretary of the mosque, Shamim Ahmed, has warned that the decision may well prompt them to look at moving to another area.
In January, the council’s licensing sub-committee granted the new Southern Co-operative store, due to open in the summer, a licence to serve alcohol from 8am to 11pm on Monday to Sunday, despite a petition with 58 signatures objecting to the move.

An Albuquerque Planet Fitness refused to let a New Mexico Muslim woman wear her religious head covering while she tried to work out, according to a new lawsuit.
Tarainia McDaniel, 37, recently filed the lawsuit in a New Mexico district court stemming from an October 2011 clash that prevented McDaniel from using the gym, even though court documents said another Planet Fitness had previously let her, the Albuquerque Journal reports.
McDaniel joined New Hampshire-based gym chain Planet Fitness in Albuquerque on a two-year contract and later transferred to another gym location. But the lawsuit said she was turned away at her new gym and was told the head covering didn’t meet its dress code.
