Over-protection, this word runs like a red thread through the political career of Ursula von der Leyen . Wherever does the 55-year-old CDU politician, she takes care of “the people”. In family ministry they invented the parental allowance, the Ministry of Labour the power of life and pension during the coalition negotiations, they put the minimum wage to the factory.

Now von der Leyen, Minister of Defence. Now they sheltered soldiers. , the Bundeswehr is the service provider for national security, the soldiers serving Germany, in extreme cases, risking their lives. The first message of the Minister fell accordingly caring: “The most important thing is man, the most important thing is not the cost.”

However, the Bundeswehr is also an authority which buys services themselves. And as soon as the armed forces have emerged as a contracting authority, they have to care nothing more in mind. Then a completely different motto is: the most important is the cost, not man.
