Savon Sanomat: Finland produces more Mohammeds than Janne’s 

The international dimension seen in Finnish first names, says the Savon Sanomat.

The most common name for a foreign child who is a resident in Finland, Daniel and Sofia. These names are also popular among Finnish citizens.

Also, Islamic names are making a rise in the Finnish Population Register. For example, Mohammed and its various derivatives last year were already 122 the most popular boy’s name. Behind it are, among other things are, Matti, Jari, Janne, Jukka and Jouni.

For girls the name of Fatima is becoming more common, and it has been more common for those born in the years 2010-2014 than, for example, Tiina.
