Due to Arab street pressure and traditional anti-Jewish sentiment.
This in my opinion, underscores French fears of an Iranian nuclear weapons program that Obama appears willing to slough off in his quest for a ‘legacy’ that will define his presidency for future generations. The present French government didn’t say non to the proposals offered at the recent talks in Geneva concerning sanctions on Iran over its nuclear weapons program, out of concern for Israel.
Hollande’s recent intended snubbing of the Israeli government during his upcoming visit to the country, where he favored talking to university students over addressing the Israeli parliament (Knesset), shows his true feelings about the state, or at least the present government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Hollande’s rejection of proposals at the recent meeting of the five permanent members of the UNSC in Geneva, need to be viewed in light of his snub of Israeli leaders, even though the intended snub backfired. He really does view Iran’s nuclear weapons program as an existential threat, at least more than Obama does, and it has nothing to do with Israel.
