Yes, there are those who still cling to the fantasy…..
Waiting for a renaissance or enlightenment to emerge for Islam will be a very long wait. The Christian enlightenment didn’t have the foresight to see what would emerge, a post Christian Europe with many of it’s values (right, wrong or indifferent) no longer holding sway in society. The Islamic world has the benefit of seeing the past and where it will lead, (the liberation of women as sovereign individuals as a prime example) and with no division between ”mosque and state” in Islamic thinking, will preempt every attempt at ”reforming” it with calls of apostasy and death to those who promote it with devastating success. That’s the reality of situation and the danger of comparing it to other religions.
