Face the facts, the easiness in which many try to rationalize the rioting of mobs in the streets of London, “that it’s is all about social justice, social cuts in the welfare state” etc, is both nauseating and rubbish, especially for those of us who still believe in the rule of law and in the civil society.
It’s what we have politics for, you have a gripe, field your candidate and address those problems in the legislature. It also means learning to live with disappointment, elections have consequences, wait until next time around, but in fairness, it’s also a reflection upon a broken political system and that the thugs in the streets thinking that they in fact can get away with it.
However, if people believe that their gripes are going unanswered and want to do engage in peaceful acts of civil disobedience in order to draw attention to their cause, (due to the political elites’ indifference to them) then so be it, but a free for all of vandalism, looting of stores and destroying personal property is never to be downplayed, ever.
In the TT’s opinion it’s an open and shut case of violence for the sake of violence, and there shouldn’t be any investigations based upon ‘psycho babel’ to explore any possible social reasons for the outburst in violence, doing so just adds weight to the thugs’ beliefs that their methods are indeed the answer. London riots: why did the police lose control?
The police have become so sensitive to the issue of race that it is impairing their ability to do the job.
What caused these riots and why did the police lose control? Some commentators think the disorder was understandable and justified; some say the police “had it coming”; others that the violence was only to be expected given the unemployment and poverty in the area.
Some local people told journalists of their resentment towards the police. One student said: “The police never talk to us, they ignore us, they don’t think we’re human in this area.” A youth worker claimed: “The way the police treat black people is like we’re nothing.” And a retired accountant who has lived locally for 30 years reported that some of the police “behave in an arrogant manner that puts people’s backs up”.
Other residents who witnessed people carrying off carpets, trainers and watches noticed that they included individuals of all “colours and creeds”, suggesting an outburst of sheer lawlessness rather than righteous retaliation for past racial slights.
I had to walk through the riot in Peckham yesterday, it was a nightmare, few police hundreds of hooded teens with there faces covered, police dogs vs rioters pitbulls,barracaides and to top it of I had to walk past a burning bus (pics over at GoV) all shops and pubs were shuttered, couldnt get a beer for love nor money! Its mob rule man!
