GROPING IN EGYPTIAN SOUQ’S MAY SOON BE A THING OF THE PAST IF HARASSMAP HAS ITS WAY…….

Hey Egyptians, especially you women and light in the sandal men-boys, tired of that feel up when you tread through the souq? Have no fear, for help is on the way! The new NGO of HarassMap will SMS your way out of groping danger. Now if only they could branch out to the US, and focus on airport TSA agents. KGS

HarrassMap: Partnerships – HarassMap is an independent group of volunteers, but we believe strongly in pulling together as a society to make a unified, cooperative effort. We’re strengthening our outreach by building our partnerships with individual volunteers, private companies very generously helping us with pro-bono services, NGOs, UNIFEM, and government. Some of our volunteers include Shalakany Law Firm, Safi from Nile FM, the Cairo Young Leaders Social Media Cafe, UNIFEM’s Safe Cities Initiative, the first film about sexual harassment “678″ and many many others.

VOLUNTEER!

We’re starting to organize for our community response groups. We need teams of Egyptian men and women to go out into the neighborhoods with high harassment and help us with community outreach. We’ll give you a training and go out one day per week to show shop owners and others in the community the maps and reports, and ask them for their help in making the neighborhood safer by speaking up when they see harassment happen. Our goal is to change the environment in these areas from one that allows harassers to act without consequences, back to an environment we can feel proud of and safe in.
