Ol’Scruffy Aims Big…….

UPDATE: Vasarahammer delivers this beautiful line: Don’t worry. Eki won’t be the next chairman of SDP, since he lacks the support of the trade unions. Even a semi-fossilized party like SDP understands that people will not elect a man from the past no matter how much the media try to promote his intellectual status. The trouble today is that “leadership material” is in short supply in today’s SDP. That’s why Ol’ Scruffy thinks he’s got a chance.

This is one politician that I hope never gets want he wants, the full control over the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The grandson of one of Finland’s most famous Communists, and is certainly no friend of Israel, is aiming to get elected as party chairman of the SDP.

“There was excitement in the air in the city hall of Kouvola in the southeast of Finland, when MP and former Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja announced to a room full of supporters of the opposition Social Democratic Party that he would make another run for the chairmanship of the SDP. Tuomioja was the first hopeful to announce his intentions in advance of next summer’s SDP party congress.”

‘Eki’ is trying to get the voting rules changed that would favor his election to the chairmanship of the SDP party.

Tuomioja is also calling for an advisory vote within the party’s rank-and-file. The present party leader, Eero Heinäluoma, opposes the idea of holding an advisory referendum before the party congress in early June. Tuomioja feels that a vote among party members would be true democracy.

He feels that he can motivate the SDP members to vote him into power. Most of the SDP leadership do not regard him as “leadership material”, and with good reason. He is a far Leftist radical whose politics remains unchanged from the hey day of Finnish radical leftism in the sixties.

“I cannot think of a more convincing way in which the party could give a sign of its genuine desire for reform. Rejecting a vote among the membership is as clear a signal of wanting to preserve and protect outdated power structures and bygone procedures”, he said. Tuomioja would not say outright if he would seek the party’s leadership if there is no vote among the members.”

Hopefully his plans are derailed. He would be a disaster for Finland and Finnish – Israeli relations. At least in my opinion. More here. *L* KGS
