Daniel Pipes writes about an interesting development happening within the halls of the Vatican, that could play as a decisive role in the war against Islamist extremism, as it did during the Cold War against communist totalitarianism. Pipes takes notice of Monsignor Velasio De Paolis, secretary of the Vatican’s supreme court, referring to Muslims.
“Explaining his apparent rejection of Jesus’ admonition to his followers to “turn the other cheek,” De Paolis noted that “The West has had relations with the Arab countries for half a century Ã… and has not been able to get the slightest concession on human rights.”
An Islamic world that shows very little regard towards other non-Muslim faiths, while demanding a far reaching tolerance towards Islam, should not be …tolerated. The cartoons of Mohamed is indicative of the problems that much of the West faces with an Islam, that demands an elevated status that is beyond critique. The fact is, much of the minority religions that reside within the Islamic world are subjected to daily abuse and whims of the Islamic majority, while the Christian world has taken it all in, through a policy of non-confrontation and low-keyed discussions, that have only allowed the situation to exasperate.
Pipes hits the nail on the head by drawing attention to the fact that “Christian populations of the Muslim world are in a free-fall,” and nothing could be more clearer than this: for the first time in nearly two millennia, Nazareth and Bethlehem no longer have Christian majorities.
