They are loathe to be as aggressive on the Arabs as they are on Israel, because Jews don’t issue fatwas.

The reason many are turned off by what once was a good human rights organization with lofty ideals, is due to the overt hypocrisy displayed on the world’s stage, as it singles out the only modern, functioning democracy of the Jewish state. Such consistent demonization of Israel has led many a good person astray, and has done nothing to help people in the region (and elsewhere) who are in real need of highlighting their dire predicaments.

hrw founder human rights has lost its way 9.5.2013

The undisputed dean of the  global human rights movement, Bernstein, 90 years old, says that the movement has lost its way.  Instead of focusing on the stranglehold on speech and other basic freedoms by the leaders of 300 million Arabs across the Middle East, the human rights watchers instead watch Israel with a microscope and play a twisted game of ‘gotcha!’ in an effort to catch Israel in what they rush to call war crimes.

Bernstein noted that of the millions of Arabs whose governments deny them freedom of speech, “half of them, 150 million, as women, not only lack freedom of speech, but have barely any rights at all.  And the private rights of how to pray and how to love are wrongly dictated by governments all across the Arab World.”

In essence, Bernstein called the “Arab Spring” a squandered opportunity for human rights activists who should have seized the opportunity to help oppressed people throughout the region throw off their shackles, instead of helping them exchange the old shackles for new ones.

Dictators who had oppressed their own people – and deceived them by telling them that Jews and Israel’s very existence were one of the primary causes of their misery – were toppled.  It was a time for human rights organizations and governmental organizations to try to push for these rights long denied, with the hopes that they would take some root.  One might have hoped, too, that it was a time for human rights organizations to tell the people living in Arab countries that their governments not only misled them about their own rights, but also falsely portrayed Israel as a threat and an enemy to detract attention from their plight.  Sadly, they did not do this.  And the reason, in my opinion, is because of where many in the human rights community have placed their emphasis in recent years.

Several Egyptian human rights activists expressed shock at the nomination. Amr Bakly, who heads the Cairo Liberal Forum, tweeted:

“The Martin Ennals Award is not for terrorist supporters. . . Mona Saif is a terrorist supporter!” Maikel Nabil, a former Amnesty International prisoner of conscience, jailed by Egypt in 2011 for his human rights activism, also expressed alarm: “The Martin Ennals Award can be awarded to Mona Seif if its committee is able to explain to the victims of terrorism why they deserve to be killed by those whom Mona supports.”

Letter Urging HRW to Cancel Nomination of Terror Supporter

The following letter was sent today to Human Rights Watch executive director Kenneth Roth.

April 30, 2013

Dear Mr. Roth,

I want to commend you again for expelling Richard Falk from your organization, after my December letter to you protesting his support for Hamas terrorism, 9/11 conspiracy theories absolving Al Qaeda for attacks on Americans, and antisemitism. Although Falk had served on the Human Rights Watch committee for many years, you admirably removed him within 24 hours of receiving our letter. Despite the outrage of Falk and his supporters, you rightly held to your decision.

Today I regret that, yet again, I must ask you to distance your organization from another open supporter of terrorism. I hope and trust that you will act with the same alacrity.

We are shocked to learn that Human Rights Watch has joined with others in naming Mona Seif of Egypt as one of three Final Nominees for the 2013 Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders—termed by some “the Nobel for human rights”—on whose jury you play a key role.

By rewarding a person with a pattern and practice of publicly inciting to violence against civilians, terrorism, and war crimes, you are dishonoring and indeed desecrating the memory and legacy of human rights activist Martin Ennals.

We urge you to call on the jury to immediately cancel Ms. Seif’s nomination, on grounds of her public advocacy of violence against civilians, terrorism, and war crimes, which is in complete violation of the Award criteria of “promotion and protection of human rights,” and of the noble principles of your own organization.

Compelling evidence of the above can be found, for example, in the following messages published on the Internet by Ms. Seif to her 180,000 Twitter followers, and to the world:

HRW: Iran’s statements not incitement to genocide

12/08/2012 20:16

Human Right Watch leader refuses to label calls to erase Israel; compares mullah’s remarks to those of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

WASHINGTON – The head of New York-based Human Rights Watch refused to label as genocidal Iranian calls to obliterate the Jewish state and compared Iran’s mullah leadership to the Shas party.

The Wall Street Journal’s David Feith, as assistant editorial features editor with the paper, obtained internal HRW emails and published last week a report, headlined “Dancing around genocide,” about alleged HRW bias against Israel and an internecine conflict within HRW’s top leadership about the group’s head, Kenneth Roth, and his failure to take Iran’s calls to destroy Israel seriously.

The Journal reported that Sid Sheinberg, HRW’s vice chairman, wrote in an email, “Sitting still while Iran claims a ‘justification to kill all Jews and annihilate Israel’ is…a position unworthy of our great organization.”

According to the newspaper, Roth wrote in one email, “Many of [Iran’s] statements are certainly reprehensible, but they are not incitement to genocide. No one has acted on them.”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that “Israel must be wiped off the map,” while former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has openly contemplated firing a nuclear missile at Tel Aviv.

Roth told the Journal that, although a committee may look into Iran’s anti-Israel rhetoric, he believes the country is not inciting genocide against the Jewish state. Instead, he argued, the push to label Tehran’s calls for Israel’s destruction as genocidal is “part of an effort to beat the war drums against Iran.”

In an email to The Jerusalem Post on Saturday, Prof. Gerald M. Steinberg, the head of the Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor, wrote, “This is a blatant example of Roth’s indifference to genocidal threats and human rights abuses when these target Israel.”

“Roth, who has controlled Human Rights Watch since 1996, has consistently demonstrated a obsession with attacking the Jewish state, and the people he selected to lead HRW’s Middle East and North Africa division are also infected with this deep bias,” Steinberg wrote.

“While Gaddafi was ranting against the Zionists, HRW embraced the regime as ‘human rights reformers.’ HRW’s studied silence in the face of Iran’s genocidal threats further demonstrates this organization’s moral bankruptcy.”

Steinberg added that “George Soros, who now provides HRW with most of its budget after many donors withdrew support, shares responsibility for enabling such immoral behavior under the facade of human rights.”

In this day and age, it doesn’t raise an eyebrow within a ‘human rights’ organization that they would even think to employ a known terrorist. It shows how much modern day supporters of human rights are far removed from supporting real human rights.  This is a real disgusting turn of events. KGS

Shawan Jabarin: You have something against moonlighting?

HRW Appoints ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ to MidEast Advisory Board

JERUSALEM – Signaling the continuing decline of the organization, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has appointed Shawan Jabarin, an alleged senior activist in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization, to its Middle East Advisory Board. This appointment, as first reported in the Daily Beast, is further evidence of the moral collapse and corruption in HRW, says Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor, a research institution that tracks NGOs.

“This appointment ends any façade that Human Rights Watch is a moral ‘watchdog’ organization,” says Prof. Gerald Steinberg, president of NGO Monitor. “Mr. Jabarin has ties to the PFLP terror group, which specialized in aircraft hijackings and carries out suicide bombings and political assassinations. He also heads an organization, Al Haq, which is among the leaders of delegitimization campaigns targeting Israel. This appointment is a slap in the face from HRW Executive Director Ken Roth and Chairman James Hoge to terror victims, Israelis, Jews, and others who seek to uphold universal human rights.”

With this appointment, HRW blatantly disregards decisions by the Israeli Supreme Court and other countries that have affirmed Jabarin’s terror links. Jordan also has denied him exit visas because of his allegedties to the PFLP.

As reported by NGO Monitor, the Israeli Supreme Court inJune 2007 referred to Jabarin as a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” a human rights worker by day and a terrorist by night. In 2008, the Supreme Court upheld a visa denial because of his terror connections.

“By appointing Jabarin, HRW has contemptuously dismissed the widely respected Israeli Supreme Court” Steinberg adds. “The assault on the courts is a key component of the strategy of demonizing Israel, as developed at the NGO Forum of the 2001 Durban Conference. HRW played a central role in Durban, and this is another step in the organization’s implementation of this strategy.”

Lefty shills for Soros
HRW Sock puppets: From
George’s hand to our mouths

The enemies of good and truth do not rest for a moment, George Soros is a menace and an unrepentant kapo, meaning, a Jewish collaborator with the Nazis, and therefore a traitor of the Jewish people. Canadian, Ezra Levant ran a post about the traitor Soros, exploring his twisted mindset that till this day, refuses to accept any moral responsibility for his actions.

So how fitting it is that HRW accepts money from this creep, they join the ranks of many other fake human rights groups that hate Israel, the US and free market capitalism, including a long list of US Democrat politicians, …like Obama. KGS

Soros Bailout of HRW Highlights Moral Crisis
NGO-Monitor: Jerusalem – A $100 million “challenge grant” from George Soros to Human Rights Watch (HRW) will not contribute to universal human rights, but will instead allow expansion of the biases and ideologies that have severely damaged this organization’s reputation, notes NGO Monitor, a Jerusalem-based research institution.

“Human Rights Watch was founded to promote a noble moral mission, but unfortunately acts in a very immoral manner,” says Professor Gerald Steinberg, president of NGO Monitor.  “HRW claims to be ‘even-handed’ and to publish ‘credible reports,’ but this is contradicted by highly biased activities in the Middle East, particularly on the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Time and again, HRW reports on Israel are based on false or unverifiable claims, and the analysis strips away the context of the conflict, denying Israelis the right to self-defense. George Soros has supported this travesty.”

NGO Monitor’s monograph, Experts or Ideologues: Systematic Analysis of Human Rights Watchdemonstrated a consistent anti-Israel agenda within the organization, as shown in detailed analysis of the publications in the Middle East and North Africa from 2002 to 2009. This report showed that MENA division director Sarah Leah Whitston and her deputy, Joe Stork, as well as other officials, come from backgrounds in anti-Israel advocacy, rather than human rights and international law.

These biases, which are particular to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) division, have intensified at HRW. In May 2009, Whitson went to Saudi Arabia to raise funds, selling the message that HRW’s role is central in countering “pro-Israel pressure groups.”  Whitson also emphasized HRW’s anti-Israel reporting on the Gaza war, which provided the foundation for the one-sided Goldstone report, as the basis for donations from Saudi funders.

This and other scandals under the leadership of Ken Roth (since 1993), including the Garlasco affair that led to the firing of HRW’s “senior military analyst,” alienated many core HRW donors, and created the crisis and the need for a bailout from Soros.

In October 2009, HRW founder Robert Bernstein published an op-ed article in the New York Times, Rights Watchdog, Lost in the Middle East which denounced the biases and failures of his own organization. Bernstein reiterated NGO Monitor’s finding of obsessive focus by HRW on false allegations against Israel, while de-emphasizing daily human rights violations in Iran, Libya and other authoritarian regimes. Bernstein noted that instead of using its growing resources to press for human rights under these regimes, his organization has focused on turning “Israel into a pariah state.”  In 2010, research reports in The New Republic and Sunday Times exposed more of HRW’s failures and further reduced its moral reputation and influence.

“Founder Bob Bernstein’s denunciation of his own organization’s moral betrayal highlights the deep bias and lack of credibility at HRW, particularly in its MENA Division,” Steinberg adds.  “Following the reports about Mr. Garlasco’s Nazi memorabilia collection, HRW pledged an independent review all of the reports he had issued.  We are still waiting for this; all of his reports must be seen as without merit until otherwise demonstrated.”

“The blatant anti-democratic and anti-Israel ideology permeates the organization,” Steinberg continues.  “Ms. Whitson’s fundraising trip and rhetoric reflect an organization that from 2004 – 2006 issued 300 percent more criticisms of Israel than of Saudi Arabia.  Additional funding without basic changes in the organizational culture and personnel at HRW will only deepen the crisis. If HRW’s incoming board chairman James Hoge Jr. is serious about restoring this moral influence, he will have revamp the organization from the ground up, particularly related to the Middle East.”

The Tundra Tabloids has been saying this for years. Bernstein himself knows that they know better, but yet they (HRW) refuse to act differently.  It’s nice that the founder has finally stepped up to state the obvious and demand change. KGS

The Human Rights Watch founder has criticized the organization for “helping those who wish to turn Israel into a pariah state.”
In a New York Times opinion piece, Robert L. Bernstein, who served as Human Rights Watch chairman from 1978 to 1998 and is now its founding chairman emeritus, wrote that with increasing frequency, the watchdog casts aside its important distinction between open and closed societies.
“Nowhere is this more evident than in its work in the Middle East,” he said. “The region is populated by authoritarian regimes with appalling human rights records. Yet in recent years Human Rights Watch has written far more condemnations of Israel for violations of international law than of any other country in the region.”
He said Israel was home to at least 80 human rights organizations, a vibrant free press, a democratically elected government, a judiciary that frequently rules against the government, a politically active academia, multiple political parties and probably more journalists per capita than any other country in the world.
On the other hand, he said, the Iranian regime, and most Arab regimes, remained “brutal, closed and autocratic, permitting little or no internal dissent.
He said Human Rights Watch’s Middle East division could be greatly beneficial to citizens of those countries, but they were instead being ignored as “report after report on Israel” was compiled. “
He said the group had “lost critical perspective on a conflict in which Israel has been repeatedly attacked by Hamas and Hizbullah, organizations that go after Israeli citizens and use their own people as human shields.”
Bernstein stressed that those terror groups were backed by Iran, which has called for the annihilation of Israel and the Jews, and said such incitement to genocide was a violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
“Leaders of Human Rights Watch know that Hamas and Hizbullah chose to wage war from densely populated areas, deliberately transforming neighborhoods into battlefields,” he wrote. “They know that more and better arms are flowing into both Gaza and Lebanon and are poised to strike again. And they know that this militancy continues to deprive Palestinians of any chance for the peaceful and productive life they deserve. Yet Israel, the repeated victim of aggression, faces the brunt of Human Rights Watch’s criticism.”
Published days after the Human Rights Council endorsed the Goldstone Commission report that accused Israel of committing war crimes and possible crimes against humanity during last winter’s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, the opinion piece notably points out that there was a difference between wrongs committed in self-defense and those carried out intentionally.

HRW’s Senior Military Analyst Marc Garlasco Is Suspended For Creepy Nazi Collection…….

The blogosphere is
mightier than the sword
Given the boot

Marc Garlasco gets a suspension, and hopefully the boot, for his weird facination for Nazi memorabilia. The Tundra Tabloids was also contaced by HRW, which left a press release in the TT’s comment box, expressing its indignation that the TT and others would spread false rumors that Marc was a closet Nazi. Well to set the pseudo human rights organization straight, the TT didn’t say he was a Nazi, but someone who was facinated with them, which would explain his hearting Hamas’ propaganda. Remember folks, this is a guy who wrote the following about a Nazi SS jacket:

Human Rights Watch suspends senior military analyst Marc Garlasco after pro-Israel blog reports that he is ‘obsessed with the color and pageantry of Nazism.’ Garlasco describes himself as ‘a military geek’ whose hobby stems from his family history
A human rights group’s senior military analyst has been suspended after a pro-Israel blog reported that he collects Nazi memorabilia, an official said Tuesday.
Marc Garlasco is being suspended by Human Rights Watch “pending an investigation,” said Carroll Bogert, associate director of the New York-based organization. The suspension was first reported Monday by The New York Times on its website.
“We do know he collects German and American World War II memorabilia, but we have questions as to whether we’ve learned everything we need to know,” Bogert said.
Garlasco’s collection was revealed last week on Mere Rhetoric, a pro-Israel blog. A blog posting said his hobby reflected an anti-Israel bias and showed he was “obsessed with the color and pageantry of Nazism.”
Human Rights Watch has no evidence that Garlasco’s hobby affected his analysis, and he “has never expressed any anti-Semitic or neo-Nazi statements,” Bogert said.

Marc Garlaso is not Nazi!
Thanks to Harri for sending the Tundra Tabloids the following story. Human Rights Watch employees are rushing to the defence of the highly discredited Nazi memorabilia collector, Marc Garlasco, who works under the guise of “senior military analyst” for the pseudo human rights organization HRW, has apparently sent out the sock puppets in his defence.
As the Elder of Ziyon correctly points out: “Is this HRW’s idea of how to win friends and influence people in the new media? Because, to my mind, they just did the opposite. Sock-puppet messages are considered a gross breach of netiquette, and it indicates a certain dishonesty, not to mention puerility.”
Apparently HRW employees see no problem in passing themselves off as people unrelated to the organization that are upset over the supposed smearing of Marc Garlasco, but guess what, the claims about him are true,:

We Got Mail: HRW Press Office Complains to the Tundra Tabloids…….

How dare the evil blogosphere
expose HRW’s Marc Garlasco’s
creepy hobby of collecting Nazi stuff!

The HRW Press Office is pissed off

Gee, the people at Human Rights Watch, now fully understand how it feels to have highly negative reports about itself circulating on the Internet. Boo flipping hoo. Read up on the spin by HRW’s press office concerning the Tundra Tabloids’ post about Marc Garlasco’s very creepy hobby. KGS

Several blogs and others critical of Human Rights Watch have suggested that Marc Garlasco, Human Rights Watch’s longtime senior military advisor, is a Nazi sympathizer because he collects German (as well as American) military memorabilia. This accusation is demonstrably false and fits into a campaign to deflect attention from Human Rights Watch’s rigorous and detailed reporting on violations of international human rights and humanitarian law by the Israeli government.

[TT: This blog pointed out Garlasco’s very creepy infatuation with Nazi memorabilia, not that he was a Nazi or Nazi Sympathiser. But we only have HRW’s word on it, that Garlasco doesn’t privately parade around his room with his medals on.]

Garlasco has co-authored several of our reports on violations of the laws of war, including in Afghanistan, Georgia and Iraq, as well as by Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah.

[TT: Marc Garlasco’s studies (a MA) were totally academic, and he was never in the military. He knows nothing about battlefield forensics. So the work that he did on the “Gaza Beach Massacre” was a total fraud.

But he did work at the US Pentagon during the time it was targeting Serbs (from his desk in Washington) selecting high value targets in Serbia during the attack on them during the 90s.

He targeted thousands of points (a bomb or shell for each one) in Serbia and Iraq, and is probably responsible for the death of hundreds if not thousands of civilians.]

Garlasco has never held or expressed Nazi or anti-Semitic views.

[TT: That view was never expressed here at the Tundra Tabloids, just his shoddy analysis work for HRW in the military forensics dept. That HRW would employ in its ranks an anlayst that can’t tell from a crater site whether it was caused from a falling shell or a covered explosive…is telling]

Garlasco’s grandfather was conscripted into the German armed forces during the Second World War, like virtually all young German men at the time, and served as a radar operator on an anti-aircraft battery. He never joined the Nazi Party, and later became a dedicated pacifist. Meanwhile, Garlasco’s great-uncle was an American B-17 crewman, who survived many attacks by German anti-aircraft gunners.

Garlasco own family’s experience on both sides of the Second World War has led him to collect military items related to both sides, including American 8th Air Force memorabilia and German Air Force medals and other objects (not from the Nazi Party or the SS, as falsely alleged). Many military historians, and others with an academic interest in the Second World War, including former and active-duty US service members, collect memorabilia from that era.

Garlasco is the author of a monograph on the history of German Air Force and Army anti-aircraft medals and a contributor to websites that promote serious historical research into the Second World War (and which forbid hate speech). In the foreword he writes of telling his daughters that “the war was horrible and cruel, that Germany lost and for that we should be thankful.”

To imply that Garlasco’s collection is evidence of Nazi sympathies is not only absurd but an attempt to deflect attention from his deeply felt efforts to uphold the laws of war and minimize civilian suffering in wartime. These falsehoods are an affront to Garlasco and thousands of other serious military historians.

[TT: SPIN, SPIN SPIN, his grandparents have nothing to do with Marc’s infatuation with Nazi German memorabilia, Marc has everything to do with his choosing to collect Nazi stuff.]

Human Rights Watch’s Senior Military Analyst MArc Garlasco Collects Nazi Memorabilia……!

HRW’s Marc Garlasco is

Maybe that’s why he pimps for Hamas?!

Thanks to Mere Rhetoric for bringing this to light, citizen journalism at its highest! Remember folks, this is the guy who likes to stand in judgement of Israel…while he secretly admires the trinkets of those who put Jews into the ovens by the 6 million. Take it away Mere Rhetoric!

Marc Garlasco – Is HRW’s Anti-Israel Investigator

A Nazi-Obsessed Collector?

There are two Marc Garlascos on the Internet. One is a top human rights investigator who, having joined Human Rights Watch after several years with the Pentagon, has become known for his shrill attacks on Israel. The other is a Marc Garlasco who’s obsessed with the color and pageantry of Nazism, has published a detailed 430 page book on Nazi war paraphernalia, and participates in forums for Nazi souvenir collectors.

Both Marc Garlascos were born on September 4, 1970. Both have Ernst as their middle name. Both live in New York, NY. Both have a maternal grandfather who fought for the Nazis. I’ve put links and screenshots on all this after the jump, and you can click through for full-sized versions. It’s hard to escape the conclusion that both Marc Garlascos are the same person.

Bloggers and activists concerned about Israel have been baffled and frustrated by the first Garlasco almost since he joined HRW. On his public photography site he posts gratuitous Palestinian and Lebanese death porn in between galleries of cute Western-looking kids playing soccer (no link – keeping his kids out of it). He provides a seemingly never-ending stream of interviews to all kinds of outlets, where he spins tales about ostensible Israeli atrocities. The only problem is that many of these tales – per Soccer Dad and IsraPundit and Elder of Ziyon and NGO Monitor and CAMERA and LGF – are biased and inaccurate. That doesn’t stop Garlasco from putting them into the kind of HRW reports that make their way into international anti-Israel condemnations and academic anti-Israel dissertations.

Then there’s the second Marc Garlasco, who I caught wind of from Elder of Ziyon. Elder had just finished tearing apart another one of HRW Garlasco’s anti-Israel reports when he found the Amazon profile of collector Garlasco. This Garlasco’s Amazon book reviews show a nearly obsessive knowledge of Nazi-era Luftwaffe Flak and Army Flak. A little more searching revealed that he’s written a gigantic book on the subject that retails for over $100. He regularly participates in forums about Nazi medals under the handle Flak 88, where he posts galleries of his prizes and admires what others have managed to collect. On those forums he uses the email, which points to a family genealogy site he set up in 2002.

If both Garlascos are the same, Human Rights Watch almost certainly knows about his creepy hobby. It took me less than an hour on Google to confirm Elder’s hunch to my satisfaction, and not much longer to lock the whole thing down. There’s even an Amazon widget displaying Garlasco’s book at the bottom of his Huffington Post article, though that may be automatically generated. The book might even be listed on his CV because, after all, none of this is illegal. Just potentially unseemly.

The collector Marc Garlasco certainly doesn’t keep his day job secret from his fellow memorabilia collectors. There are at least two public references to his life as an HRW investigator on the forums. In one thread he posts dozens upon dozens of pictures from his collection at the end of 2007, which he describes as having been a “very lucky” year. A friend responds “Jeez Louise!! I had no idea HRW paid the big bucks!!” In another thread he comments on a badge and gushes “I would kill for that – WOW!” A friend responds “now now, HRW boy, don’t go overboard!”

So we have to assume he’s not leading a double life and that his employers know about his extracurriculars. If so we can also safely assume they’ve investigated the numerous demonstrable errors in his anti-Israel writeups. They presumably concluded that his apologism for antisemitic genocidal Hamas lunatics is unrelated to his obsession with antisemitic genocidal Nazi lunatics. That would be interesting to hear.

If Garlasco has been less than forthright about what he does in his off-time – and if HRW hasn’t taken an hour to Google him and figure it out for themselves – that would be interesting in a different way.

Either way, someone needs to explain why he keeps getting sent to the Middle East to write debunked report after debunked report, lest people suspect that he has an unseemly motive for his consistently anti-Israel errors.

OH—but there’s more. They are in spin mode at the chat forum that deals in this twisted form of memorabilia:

Moderator, MK: “Well, we are all allready “Nazis” in the opinion of certain people which are only interested in a black/white or good/bad history. You won’t change such a opion and the best thing is not to care in them. I think a forum like GCA with members of different countries speaking all kind of languages speak a clear language who we are:Collectors interested in history without policy statements.

What happended there to Marc is sad and stupid but if you see his real life job than it was only a question of them. With his job for HRW he doesn’t make much friends on some places. So searching the weak side of such a person and launch a counter attack is normal in this business. If he had lost his driving licence in the past because of a beer to much we would know read that he is a possible drunkard. That’s the classic political game of destroying someones integrity ….

HRW’s Marc Garlasco:Thanks guys,I would react but I don’t want to encourage them. Still, I doubt they read my book. But Phil is right, this is more about where I work than anything else.Kind Regards, Marc “

Breaking: Author of Report Against Israel Supported Munich Massacre……!

This is who HRW
places at the helm

Joe Stork: And the media falls for my stuff
time and again, they can’t get enough!

The Finnish newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, fell for it big time, and something tells me that they won’t be advising their readers -about the guy responsible for the propaganda of Arabs in Gaza being shot at while carrying a white flag- is a rabid anti-Israel crank who supported the Munich massacre. No, the HS will just …filter it out…as if it never happened. KGS

Translated from Hebrew

Original title: The Big Lie of HRW

(Article by Ben-Dror Yemini, Ma’ariv, 16.8.09, p. 13)

Joe Stork, a senior official in Human Rights Watch, which accuses the IDF of killing Palestinians who waved white flags, is a fanatical supporter of the elimination of Israel. He was a friend of Saddam, ruled out negotiations and supported the Munich Massacre, which “provided an important boost in morale among Palestinians.”

Last Thursday, many world media outlets covered the press conference in which a senior Human Rights Watch official, Joe Stork, presented the report accusing >Israel of killing twelve Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who waved white flags during Operation Cast Lead. Stork, the person identified with the report, has a unique history of Israel-hating: He supported the murder of Israeli athletes in Munich, was an avid supporter of Saddam Hussein and more.

Several times in the past, Stork has called for the destruction of Israel and is a veteran supporter of Palestinian terrorism. Already as a student, Stork was amongst the founders of a new radical leftist group, which was formed based on the claim that other leftist groups were not sufficiently critical of Israel and of the United States’ support of it. Already in 1976, Stork participated in a conference organized by Saddam Hussein which celebrated the first anniversary of the UN decision that equated Zionism with racism.

Stork, needless to say, arrived at the conference as a prominent supporter of Palestinian terrorism and as an opponent to the existence of the State of Israel. He also labeled Palestinian violence against Israel as “revolutionary potential of the Palestinian masses” – language that was typical of fanatical Marxists.

In articles which he authored during the 1970’s, Stork stated that he was against the very existence of Israel as an “imperialistic entity” and, to this end, provided counsel to Arab regimes on how to eliminate the Zionist regime. He also was opposed to any negotiations since this meant recognizing its existence: “Zionism may be defeated only by fighting imperialism,” wrote Stork, “and not through deals with Kissingers.”

On other occasions, Stork expressed his position that the global Left must subordinate itself to the PLO in order to strengthen elements that opposed any accord with Israel. It would seem that he has not changed his ways since then. He is still conceptually subordinate to those who have maintained their opposition to the existence of the State of Israel. Once the world’s radical left supported the PLO. Today, part of the global Left supports Hamas.

Stork, of course, is not alone. The hate ships that arrive from time to time, or attempt to arrive, to the shores of Gaza, are full of radicals of his ilk. They do not identify with efforts towards compromise or peace. On the contrary, they identify with those who are continuing the old line that supports the elimination of Israel. And what would happen if the PLO should decide to enter the negotiations track? Stork already recommended years ago that the Palestinian left splinter in order to continue the resistance. Hamas obeyed. It is possible to guess where Stork’s heart lays.

Where does Stork stand regarding matters of objectivity and neutrality? He criticized Professor Ibrahim Abu-Lughod, himself a PLO figure, because he edited an anthology which tried, at least seemingly, to produce a balanced presentation. “Academic neutrality is deceitful,” wrote Stork. And what about factual accuracy? Stork claimed that Menachem Begin said that, ‘The Palestinians are two-legged animals.” In fact, Begin said that those who come to kill children are “two-legged animals.” The difference is, of course, huge. Stork, time after time, justifies his high standing in the industry of hate and lies against Israel.

Stork reached his peak in a statement published by the Middle East Research and Information Project, which dealt with gathering information on the Middle East conflict, and in which Stork was a leading figure. This was a statement that included explicit support for the murder of the eleven Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics: “Munich and similar actions cannot create or substitute for a mass revolutionary movement,” the statement said, “But we should comprehend the achievement of the Munich action…It has provided an important boost in morale among Palestinians in the camps.” Murder and terrorism, if so, are a matter of morale.

This is the man. A radical Marxist whose positions have not changed over the years. On the contrary. Objectivity, neutrality or sticking to the facts are not Stork’s strong suit. He even proudly exclaims that there is no need for neutrality.

Is it possible to relate seriously to a report against Israel which this man stands behind? Both >Camera and Professor Gerald Steinberg have revealed worrying data on the leaders of Human Rights Watch and on the two people who head its Middle East Department – Sarah Leah Whitson and Joe Stork – even before its latest report and unconnected to it. The organization, as part of its false presentation, issued polite condemnations of Hamas rocket fire. But it seems that such blatant anti-Israel bias leaves room for doubt. A Stork produced report on Israel is about as objective as a report by Baruch Marzel on Hebron.

Israel is called upon to provide explanations in the wake of Human Rights Watch reports. It is about time that Israel publicly exposed the ideological roots of several of this organization’s leaders and demands the dismissal of these supporters of terrorism and haters of Israel. Until then, Israel, justifiably, cannot seriously comment on criticism from such a body.

Finnish Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat: Israel Blamed For Shooting Civilians With White Flag…….

The Helsingin Sanomat believes it sees
clearly through the “Fog of War”

HS: So what if the charges are unsupported by credible evidence
It’s a Palestinian making the claim that counts!

UPDATE: Author of HRW report approved of the Munich massacre. Joe Stork is a radical Leftist and extremely anti-Israel. This proves the TT was correct in its judgement of the reports validity.

The Tundra Tabloids alerted its readers to a press conference by the Israeli MFA concerning an extensive report it released about the military operation in Gaza this year, Cast Lead. If anyone took the time to view the conference or read the report the press conference was discussing, would know that Israel is indeed taking every accusation of wrong doing by its soldiers seriously.

There have been 13 cases thus far, that have led to a verdicts against IDF soldiers who were convicted of wrong doings, that’s not in dispute. It’s wrong however, for the media to take it for granted that every charge leveled at the IDF, by Palestinians who have something to gain from it, as well as from these human rights groups like Human Rights Watch and similar NGO:s, who have highly biased agendas,….is valid.

Left out of the subscription only article by Jukka Huusko, was the fact that Human Rights Watch which authored the report Huusko was writing about, had recently raised money for its organization in Saudi Arabia. This all of course raises doubts about its impartiality, but as David Bernstein points out, ” is not that HRW is pro-Saudi, but that it is maniacally anti-Israel.

The same can be said about the Helsingin Sanomat, which is reflected in the way Huusko wrote his report,

Israel kertoi omassa raportissaan tutkivansa noin sataa tapausta sotilaidensa väitetyistä rikkomuksista Gazassa. Näistä kolmestatoista oli käynnistetty rikostutkinta. Israelin omassa selvityksessä on mukana kaksi tapausta, jotka löytyvät myös HRW:n raportista. ” / Israel said in its report that its investigating hundreds of reports in which there are about a hundred cases of soldiers being charged with crimes in Gaza. In Israel’s own investigations there were two incidents that were also found in HRW’s own report.

What Huusko leaves out of course, is that any complaint, whether it’s from an Arab or a Jew, has to be taken seriously by the IDF. But that doesn’t mean just because claims are made, it automatically makes them into accurate accounts. The HS article is hyping the HRW report as factual, just because two of the cases the IDF investigated were in a HRW report went to court, what about the rest that didn’t go to court? HRW’s report if full of claims, and any reasonable minded person can conclude that many are not factual. But it all makes a very good headline though doesn’t it?

HS:”Israel blamed for shooting civilians in Gaza who were waiving a white flag“.

The familiar defence of course if that Huusko is just reporting what others are saying, so he can’t be blamed for any bias. But if that were so, we would see a detailed reports about the lengths Israel’s IDF went to prevent any civilian casualties in spite of the dangers such a policy posed to Israeli troops. We would be witness to an interesting report about how Hamas and ilk used their own civilians as human shields, and hid amongst the civilian population, as well as hiding out in a Finnish funded medical center, and then firing upon IDF troops which resulted in return fire and a demolished building.

Thanks to media outlets like the Helsingin Sanomat, Israel still remains condemned for its soldiers’ return fire, not the Hamas Nazis who commandeered it in the first place. KGS

This is what they do.

Hamas terrorist uses a kid to cross the street.

HRW’s Military Analyst Marc Garlasco is Outraged Over Israel’s Shelling of Hamas But Selected Thousands of Targets in Serbia and Iraq For Bombing….

Talk about hypocricy, Marc Garlasco is a poster child for deeply conflicted former Pentagon intelligence analysts trying to amend for (believed) past mistakes. The J’lem Post sets the pace with the following article concerning HRW’s claims about Israeli shelling tactics.

J’lem Post: A New York-based human rights group says the IDF’s artillery shelling into crowded Gaza areas should be considered indiscriminate attacks. Human Rights Watch said Friday Israel sometimes fires 155-milimeter artillery shells at gunmen, who often operate in crowded areas. A military analyst with the group, Marc Garlasco, said that the shells can kill people up to 150 meters away. Garlasco said that means they kill indiscriminately.
But wait, there is more about Marc Garlasco than meets the eye, over at the Gaurdian there is a bio of Marc Glarlasco which reads as follows:

Marc Garlasco is the senior military analyst at Human Rights Watch (HRW). As well as being HRW’s resident expert on battle damage assessment, military operations, and interrogations, Marc also leads HRW’s work on prisoner abuse, civilian military contractors, and non-lethal weapons.

Marc was in Lebanon during the 2006 war and did an exhaustive investigation into the use of cluster munitions there. Marc has been a regular on National Public Radio, in the United States, and has been featured on television news, including CNN, ABC, BBC, and others.

Before coming to HRW, Marc spent seven years in the Pentagon as a senior intelligence analyst covering Iraq. His last position there was chief of high-value targeting during the Iraq war in 2003. Marc was on the Operation Desert Fox (Iraq) Battle Damage Assessment team in 1998, led a Pentagon Battle Damage Assessment team to Kosovo in 1999, and recommended thousands of aimpoints on hundreds of targets during operations in Iraq and Serbia.

He also participated in over 50 interrogations as a subject matter expert. Marc has a BA in government from St John’s University, and an MA in international relations from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University.

According to a Tundra Tabloid source, [His (Garlasco’s) studies (a MA) were totally academic, and he was never in the military. He knows nothing about battlefield forensics. So the work that he did on the “Gaza Beach Massacre” was a total fraud. Anyway, his work at the Pentagon was targeting Serbs (from his desk in Washington) selecting high value targets in Serbia during the attack on them during the 90s. He targeted thousands of points (a bomb or shell for each one) in Serbia and Iraq, and is probably responsible for the death of hundreds if not thousands of civilians.]
No doubt NATO forces believed then that they were operating in accordance with international law, and the historical record is clear that no one took NATO to task for any alleged war crimes. The same can be said of Israel, though unwanted mistakes do happen and innocent civilians are killed.
It’s the height of arrogance and hypocrisy for a man who was once in charge of picking out “high valued targets” in Serbia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and in Iraq, to be waving his finger in self righteous indignation at Israel which is fighting an enemy so barbaric that it purposefully places its own people in harms way.
But that’s what Marc Garlasco is doing, and in a very high profile way. It would be pure irony if a Serb were to file an international law suit against the guy, and bring to light all the NATO and US military missions he was responsible for that resulted in the deaths of civilians. If anyone can find the time to dig through this guys records and see what he was responsible for, the TT would be very appreciative. KGS
