CNN Erases Israel From the Map

Following the publication of this post and the complaints of many Honest Reporting subscribers, CNN has removed the map in question and replaced it with an image of the aftermath of a Syrian airstrike in Aleppo.

While we question how the error occurred at all, nonetheless we commend CNN for taking prompt action.

Berlin’s high-end department store KaDeWe, which was boycotted in the 1930s because of its former Jewish owners, pulled Israeli products manufactured in settlements from its shelves on Friday because of new EU guidelines mandating labels on goods from the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

“We have taken the corresponding [Israeli settlement] products out from our line of goods,” KaDeWe spokeswoman Petra Fladenhofer told Spiegel. “We will, after an appropriate labeling, put them back in our product line.”

The department store’s move adds fuel to the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) debate targeting Israel’s economy in Germany. KaDeWe attracts tens of thousands a visitors a day and the store’s Jewish ownership was ended because of the Nazi’s anti-Semitic laws.

KaDeWe opened in 1907 and was initially owned by by Adolf Jandorf, a Jewish real estate businessman. The department store was purchased in 1927 by the Warenhaus Hermann Tiez, a Jewish family business enterprise. Berlin’s Nazi movement boycotted KaDaWe’s Jewish owners starting in 1933 and eventually seized the business.

Former Finnish Pres: Blame Paris Attacks on Failure to Solve Palestinian Crisis

Former Finnish President second Scandinavian Public Figure to point finger at Israel for Nov. 13 Paris Attacks

Martti Ahtisaari, the 78-year-old former president of Finland, is now the second major Scandinavian figure to point a finger at Israel for being the source of ISIS terrorism. Ahtisaari announced to the world that the ISIS terrorist attacks on Paris which took place on Friday, Nov. 13, indeed, all of the current global terrorism now being committed by ISIS, is at least in part due to the failure of Israel to appease the Palestinian Arabs.

It first happened just a few days ago. Sweden’s minister for foreign affairs, Margot Wallström, was being interviewed by Swedish Television the day after the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks on Paris. Responding to a query regarding her concerns that young Swedes may become radicalized and turn to ISIS, Wallström suggested the cause lay in the Middle East, “where not least the Palestinians feel like there is no future for them,” according to Radio Sweden.

Wallström then went on to link the two situations by saying “They feel like they either have to accept a desperate situation or resort to violence.”

Erik Wirkensjö, Wallström’s press secretary said she was not linking the Israel-Palestinian Arab conflict to the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Maybe, maybe not, although that is exactly what is sounded like what she was doing.

But Finland’s former president Ahtisaari also tied the perceived hopelessness of the Palestinian Arabs and their brethren in the Middle East to the ever-increasing rise of terrorist-based radical Islam. This former Nobel Peace Prize winner nicely weds the guilt of Europe and its refusal to recognize the deserving needy Arabs, to the hopelessness giving rise to radical Islam. In that way, Israel, especially, but also Europe in general, bear ultimate responsibility for the terrorist attacks against the West.

According to the Finnish blog Tundra Tabloids, Ahtisaari says that youngsters have been radicalized in the Middle East partly because Palestinian Arabs have been treated badly:

Former President, Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Ahtisaari says that Europe must pay attention to the reasons of radicalisation more than it does. European countries must get work and education for youngsters.Europe must pay attention to the reasons of radicalisation more than it does. European countries must get work and education for youngsters. The Arab Spring did not actually start in Tunisia, but in the suburbs of Paris. Advancing the Middle East peace process is crucial as far as European security is concerned. The Syrian peace process would give people hope of returning home. The question of Israel and Palestine must also be solved.

Okay, Sweden, now Finland. Should we take bets on who will be the next Scandinavian to blame Israel for the Nov. 13 Assault on Paris?

The reality is of course, that there is no connection whatsoever, nor was there any so called Arab Spring, it was an illusion.

Arab winter

Even if Israel had never existed, Arabs would still be mass murdering other Arabs, Jews would still be on the Islamonazis’ hit list and bombs would be going off in Europe and elsewhere. So the Arab’s continued war against the Jews has nothing to do with other conflicts around that region.

Concerning the nonsense about the “Arab Spring”, in order to have a fully functioning (small d) democracy, you first have to have a functioning civil society, in which ordered liberty secures the rights of the individual, like the one in Israel. The Jews were the only group of people in the Middle East that accepted the world’s first ever “democracy project” attempt in post WWI, during the Mandate Period. The Arabs still reject it to this day.

But Uncle Screw Loose thinks otherwise:

I just hope they dropped leaflets or called the houses they were bombing before doing so. How many civilians were killed in this bombing?

Will the UN condemn France? Will Obama make a statement?

How about I call on both sides to act with restraint.

A colleague and friend of mine works in the Finnish school system in southern Finland, and came across this school book in A Christian religious class (yes, they do hold religious classes in Finland, the Lutheran Church is the state religion). The school book depicts how Jews lived at the time of Jesus and that they lived in, wait for it…… “Palestine”.

The title of the chapter is “Life in Palestine”

In an average family’s home

there was only one room.

The people and animals lived together

in the same room.

The women worked at home.

The Jews at the time of Jesus lived in Judea, the Roman Imperial province of Judea to be exact, formerly Israel-Judah-Judea the only united, independent, sovereign nation-state in the land. It only became Palestine in 135 AD after the Bar Kochba revolt with Jews being driven out of the land, though many managed to remain in the land in whatever way that they could.

That the highly vaunted Finnish school system chooses to use the mendacious label of “Palestine” for a period some 135 years before it was imposed on the region, is pure sloppiness bordering on intellectual scumbaggery.

Even that headline is too difficult for the empty headed (and very anti-Israel) Swedish FM to understand.

The Local:

Wallström made her remarks after she was asked by a Swedish journalist if Sweden and other countries should worry about the rise of extremism.

She said: “Yes, it is clear that we have reasons to worry… to see that there are so many people who have become radicalised.”

“And once again we return to situations like that in the Middle East, especially (concerning) Palestinians who think: there is no future for us, we must accept a desperate situation or resort to violence.”

It’s antisemitism folks, the international community has it in for the Jews, hence all the double standards and dissembling.

Here’s yet another example of their duplicitous nature concerning the Jews, Caroline Glick call them out on the carpet:

Thus the European Union allows Morocco — which has extensive trade ties with Europe, but has occupied Western Sahara since 1975, and populated it heavily with settlers — to export products from its occupied territory labeled “Made in Morocco.” When challenged, the commission formally declared that labeling such goods as “made in” Morocco is not misleading, and is consistent with European trade agreements.

Making special rules for Israel has the undesired effect of reducing Israel’s incentives to take international law seriously: If the goal posts can be moved, there is less reason to play the game. As a putative role model for international law, the European Union’s greatest weapon is its probity and consistency. By damaging that, it harms its ability to set the global agenda.

Europe Mislabels Israel

THIS week the European Commission announced guidelines suggesting that Israeli products from areas that came under its control in 1967 be labeled “Israeli Settlement” products and not “Made in Israel” as they have been until now. The policy carves out a special legal rule for Israel, not only contradicting the European Union’s own official positions on these issues, but also going against rulings of European national courts, and violating basic tenets of the World Trade Organization.

Israel: ‘Discriminatory’ EU decision to label settlement products may harm ties with Brussels

Israel condemned as discriminatory a European Union decision to publish guidelines to allow for consumer labels on imports produced over the Green Line, to signify that they were not made in Israel.

It warned that the move could harm Israeli European relations.

“We regret that the EU took this politically motivated and unusual and discriminatory step, that it learned from the world of boycotts,” the Foreign Ministry said in a harshly worded statement.

The Foreign Ministry also summoned the European Union’s Ambassador to Israel Lars Faaborg to explain the decision by the European Commission, which is the political body in Brussels.

An EU official told Reuters that the Commission had “adopted this morning the Interpretative Notice on indication of origin of goods from the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967.”

Since the issue was first raised in 2012, the EU has downplayed it as a technical matter. It has explained that it is not a boycott of Israel, but rather a measure design to inform the consumer that the products were not made in Israel.

UPDATE: Israeli MFA responds:
MFA response to EU decision regarding product labeling
(Communicated by Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

Israel condemns the decision of the European Union to label Israeli products originating from areas that are under Israeli control since 1967. We regret that the EU has chosen, for political reasons, to take such an exceptional and discriminatory step, inspired by the boycott movement, particularly at this time, when Israel is confronting a wave of terrorism targeting any and all of its citizens.

It is puzzling and even irritating that the EU chooses to apply a double standard concerning Israel, while ignoring that there are over 200 other territorial disputes worldwide, including those occurring within the EU or on its doorstep. The claim that this is a technical matter is cynical and baseless.

Product labeling does not advance any political process between Israel and the Palestinians. The opposite is the case – it is bound to reinforce the PA’s refusal to conduct direct negotiations with Israel, negotiations that the EU claims to support. Product labeling will strengthen the radical elements advocating a boycott against Israel and denying Israel’s right to exist, contradicting positions that the EU publicly opposes. This recent step raises questions regarding the role that the EU aspires to play. It may also have implications for Israel-EU relations.

Hypocrites of Germany and of Europe, you disgust me.

The Germans and Europe in general have longed for a way out of their moral culpability for the destruction of European Jewry during WWII in the Holocaust, and slinging arrows at the Jews of Israel (who are only defending themselves against total annihilation) provides them with that in spades.

This is why I insist that those who labor tirelessly for 363 days out of the year in measures that work against the Jewish state of Israel, are not to be taken seriously in Kristallnacht and Holocaust commemoration ceremonies. In fact, they should be publically marginalized and banned from future participation.

Analysis: The mood in Germany: Kristallnacht ‘nein,’ BDS ‘ja’

Each year on November 9, Berlin remembers the lethal anti-Semitic pogroms carried out by Germans against Jews and synagogues in 1938 – the so-called Kristallnacht anniversary. The commemoration events punctuate German cities and towns and are largely decoupled from Israel.

“If Israel’s existence is up for consideration, that is actually a scandal that we must deal with today. But we are, so to speak, now present to stop the 1938 Kristallnacht,” German- Jewish journalist Henryk M. Broder said sarcastically.

Broder neatly captured the ongoing absurdity in segments of German society that seek to dismantle Israel while immersing themselves in Kristallnacht remembrance.

This year, Israel took an atypical diplomatic step to breathe some change into Holocaust remembrance in Germany.

In response to the city of Munich sponsoring a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions lecture against Israel, the head of Israel’s consulate in Munich, Dan Shaham, told The Jerusalem Post: “The racist, anti-Semitic character of this movement, which calls for a boycott of Israel, was again made clear two days before the Kristallnacht remembrance.”

More here.

NOTE: I remember reading a Finnish Leftist blog some ten years ago, an exchange between anti-israel nutjobs lamenting the fact that while they were in Germany visiting with their political allies, the German Leftists stated that they wouldn’t dare move against Israel like the Left does elsewhere in Europe (BDS etc) because of Germany’s history during WWII. Boycotting Jews was still too taboo of an act to consider, I guess that’s now changing.

The Jews who invited her are the worst of the worst.

These are the jackasses that give legitimacy to the most outrageous anti-Jewish rhetoric and anti-Israel canards in existence. Inviting this POS to speak in the Netherlands for a kristallnacht memorial service is simply beyond the pale.

NOTE: It’s the same as if a loon follower of Charles Manson would be invited to speak at a memorial for Sharon Tate, with the expressed purpose to systematically assassinate her character before the media gathered.

AMSTERDAM — Denouncing Israel for “racist policies” against the Palestinians, firebrand MK Hanin Zoabi of the Joint (Arab) List party accused the Jewish state of crimes akin to those committed by the Nazis. She was speaking at an event marking the anniversary of Kristallnacht in the heart of Amsterdam’s decimated Jewish quarter on Sunday.

Organized by the city’s far-left Platform Stop Racism and Exclusion, the commemoration drew more than 200 attendees, with dozens of them wearing kippot or draped in Israeli flags.

Daniel Killy has published a review of Dr.Manfred Gerstenfeld’s book “The War of a Million Cuts in German“, in the widely read Jewish German paper Jüdische Allgemeine. Republished here in English with the author’s consent.

The War of a Million Cuts

Daniel Killy

KillyThe common hatred of Jews in modern times, in particular in Germany, likes to cloak itself in the stealth mode of ‘censure of Israel’. This is its newest ploy, just one aspect of a worldwide anti-Semitism in its innumerable facets and forms, which has not only survived, but constantly seeks to expand further. In his most recent work, The War of a Million Cuts, Jerusalem-based anti-Semitism researcher Manfred Gerstenfeld assembles and analyzes the categories of current anti-Semitism and the defamation of Israel, all in one book.

The book’s title, The War of a Million Cuts illustrates the huge array of manifestations of enmity toward Jews. “I created this expression,” says Gerstenfeld, “in order to represent how radically the fight against the current forms of anti-Semitism is different from that against classic anti-Semitism. There the hatred of Jews concentrated itself in one particular message – the murder of Jesus, for instance, in religious anti-Semitism, or the genetic inferiority of the Jews in ethnic anti-Semitism.”

Propaganda Attacks

Nowadays the “cuts” are mainly directed against Israel. In 21 chapters and more than 500 pages, the 78-year-old author portrays and analyzes the individual facets of hatred toward Jews and Israel. This is the first complete collection and analysis of the unfortunately daily, worldwide propaganda attacks against Israel and the Jews. Be it Muslims (whether in dictatorships or as migrants in the West), politicians, classic media, social media, NGOs, church leaders, academics, trade-unionists, right wing extremists, social democrats or radical leftists – they all make up the essence of a new anti-Semitism which is apparently unstoppable in its relentless march forward.

Gerstenfeld meticulously describes the individual motifs and categories of this hatred, and presents an erudite exposition of how it constantly poisons societies, and how much damage it causes to Israel and the Jews. It is interesting to see that historical hate motifs such as the Jewish lust for blood survive in modern mutations. Gerstenfeld depicts the case of the Norwegian physicians Mads Gilbert and Erik Fosse who helped wounded Hamas fighters during the 2008 Gaza campaign – financed by the Norwegian government. In their book Øyne I Gaza (Eyes in Gaza), they claim that Israel only marched into the Gaza strip in order to kill Palestinian women and children. In numerous interviews, these two compared the Israeli defence policy with the Greek Hades, the god of the underworld. Their reward for these defamations: repeated praise from the Norwegian Prime Minister at the time, Jens Stoltenberg, currently Secretary General of NATO, and the Order of St. Olav – from the hand of King Harald V himself.

Theft of Organs?

The Swedish journalist Donald Böström published an article in the daily Aftonbladet entitled “Our sons’ organs were stolen”, claiming that the IDF kills Palestinians in order to ‘harvest’ their organs – with the approval of the Israeli health authorities.

It would be premature to find such nonsense merely amusing. The vast number of such incidents, which Gerstenfeld details by country and methodology, shows how perniciously effective they are. For this reason, one cannot value Manfred Gerstenfeld’s work enough, in that he has brought together an entire cosmos of hatred against Jews and Israel in one compendium. The same is true for his core thesis: that for decades, Israel has not taken these attacks seriously enough, and prefers to counter them in a purely reactive way. Gerstenfeld vehemently demands the creation of an anti-propaganda agency.

The author asserts that it is possible to conduct a structured well organized battle against anti-Semitism, if it is done so with strategic, cool precision. Against the backdrop of so many intolerable incidents, Gerstenfeld’s book, graced with a preface by the former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, should be obligatory reading – in particular in Germany!

“The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians evokes such strong emotions outside the Middle East.

Half of the Muslims in Denmark thus believes that the State of Israel should be completely wiped off the map. This shows a poll by Wilke made for Jyllands-Posten.

On the question of whether the state of Israel has a right to exist, just over half – 50.4 per cent. – answers “no”. 34.9 percent answer “yes”, while the rest are not sure.

Not holding my breath though.

Being pro-Jewish at a German Daily a Personal Story

Manfred Gerstenfeld interviews Daniel Killy

Dr.Manfred GerstenfeldOn January 15th 2014 I became the Executive Managing Editor of the Weser-Kurier, the only independent daily in the major German port city of Bremen. I was responsible for the contents and appearance of the daily edition. As part of my job, I was tasked with converting the very print-orientated mode of editing into a tri-medial news desk where the web edition, apps and the printed daily paper would be equally important.

Formerly an Executive Editor with Bild, Europes largest paper, published by Axel Springer AG, Daniel Killy is a Jewish-German-American publicist, specializing in Jewish/anti-Semitic media issues.

Bremen has been a tower of support for the Palestinians for many years. Since Germany returned to democracy seventy years ago, the city and the federal state have been governed by the Social Democrats. The Social Democrat left has been taking a very harsh stand against Israel, with one exception Jens Böhrnsen, who served as President of the Senate and mayor of Bremen from 2005 until May 2015.

Usually the hatred toward Israel and the Jewsis barely hidden behind political arguments against the ‘oppression’ and ‘colonization’ of the Palestinians. Bremen is a stronghold of boycott, divestment and sanctions supporters (BDS). This makes it virtually impossible for a newspaper to speak out for Israel. I tried to change that by writing a number of pro-Israel op-eds and editorials.

Before long, a storm of protest set in. I received anonymous threats, and was told that a leaflet discrediting my life and work had been circulated among Bremens politicians. Later I found out that the author of this Nazi-style denunciation was a former Weser-Kurier editor, himself the son of a notorious Nazi editor.

This was my welcome gift. The paper was very supportive in the beginning, especially the outgoing editor-in-chief, for whom I was substituting. Yet it soon became clear that many at the Weser-Kurier considered me to be biased.

In July 2014, during the Gaza campaign, the open hatred against Israel on Germanys streets reached its climax. I wrote a somewhat personal essay entitled Vanishing Valuesdescribing how it felt to be a German Jew at that time. I received much positive feedback from colleagues. However, senior management responded by instructing me that for the time being, I shouldnt write about Jewish issues and Israel anymore because I was not neutral.

I realized only later that this instruction went against Germanys official state doctrine. Germany is a steadfast friend of Israel and protector of its Jewish population. To be forbidden, as a journalist, to take a stand for Jewish issues, is a demonstration of blunt anti-Semitism, and does not stem from media neutrality. Could one possibly imagine that an editor of Christian faith would ever be prevented from expressing his or her solidarity with Germanys Christian values? I ignored the managements instructions. Most of the time I was running the paper alone, and I continued to put forward my political and ethical views on the Middle East and the growing migrant and classic anti-Semitism in Germany.

In December 2014 things got worse. I had arranged the first interview in a German daily with the newly elected President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster. A few days later, I met the incoming new editor-in-chief of Weser-Kurier for the first time. I then got an email from him saying that I had not been ‘independant’ enough in the interview. He said that my questions represented my position as spokesman of the Jewish Community in Hamburg rather than that of an independent journalist. He informed me that such an approach would not be allowed after he came in as editor-in-chief.

I replied that I saw this email as an insult to my journalistic independence. The following day I received an official letter from the Chief Executive Officer of the paper’s publisher, Bremer Tageszeitungen AG. He and his co-signatory, the human resources manager, officially forbade me to do any more voluntary work for the Jewish Community as this was putting my independence as a journalist in jeopardy.

In January 2015 I addressed the CEO about the issue. I told him that the Schuster interview had been correctly handled by any media standards. He was uncomfortable with the situation, and then said Mr. Killy, you need to understand that we as Bremens monopoly paper cant afford to be considered pro-Jewish.I commented that this explanation was perhaps seventy years too late. He replied, No, no, of course I didnt mean it like that. However, he did. He apologized if he had offended me and done me wrong, and told me that he would talk to the incoming editor-in-chief about the matter. There was absolutely no problem anymore, he said.

Six weeks later, I was fired.

Israeli academic shouted down in lecture at University of Minnesota
Resize Text Print Article Comments 206

By Dale Carpenter November 4

On Tuesday afternoon an Israeli academic was shouted down by two dozen protesters as he tried to begin a lecture before about 100 students and faculty at the University of Minnesota. The speaker was Moshe Halbertal, a professor at NYU Law School and a professor of Jewish thought and philosophy at Hebrew University. He was invited to deliver the Dewey Lecture in the Philosophy of Law, which is organized annually by the law school. That the freedom to present a lecture is threatened in this way at a public university is appalling, calling not only for punishment of violations but for a clear statement by university officials defending the free exchange of ideas.

The lecture, which I attended, was delayed half an hour as one by one the protesters stood up to shout denunciations of Israel and were escorted from the hall by university police. One young woman came screaming back into the lecture after having been ejected. Outside the hall, the protesters chanted so loudly that it was difficult to hear Halbertal, much less to concentrate on what he was saying, until 45 minutes after the lecture was to have begun.

That’s like denying Jews were particularly singled out during WWII in the Holocaust, because more Christians were being killed than any other religious group.

Also, he deems islamonazis murdering Israelis as ”innocent Muslims”, including them in the number of Muslims killed in conflicts, placing Israel in the same category as Islamic State, al-Qaida and Assad’s regime. What a jackass.

Tuomioja: “Most Christians are killing other Christians – Muslims are the most endangered in conflicts”

MP Erkki Tuomioja (Soc.) Wonders why some MPs seek to paint Christians as a particular group at risk in the world’s conflicts. For example, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timo Soini (ps.) has written that Christians are the world’s largest persecuted group.

– The fact is that most Christians are killing other Christians, just like most Muslims are kill other Muslims or Hindus killing others are Hindus. In conflict situations, the most endangered are Muslims, that Muslims are killing not only others, including by Jews in Palestine, by Hindus in India and by Buddhists in Myanmar.

Tuomioja writes on Facebook, that every life is just as much in need of protection, and that is a legitimate matter regardless of denomination or as an atheist.

– All religions past and present have been associated with terrorism, without neglecting the fact that the atheists have , nor is it anyone’s installations are never acceptable.

UNESCO chief, Washington bash draft text claiming Western Wall is a Muslim Holy site

The UNESCO Secretary-General and the US bashed as incitement to violence the draft text of a resolution that seeks to reclassify the Western Wall as a holy Muslim site.

The US warned that the resolution threatened to alter the status quo of holy sites, such as the Temple Mount, where the Western Wall – the most sacred public prayer site in Judaism – is located.

“The United States strongly opposes this resolution and any such use of international fora such as UNESCO to inflame tension in the region and alter the status quo at the holy sites,” Edgar Vasquez, a State Department spokesman, told The Jerusalem Post. “The United States is in close, urgent consultation with UNESCO member states, UNESCO leadership and Israel to discuss this matter.

“One-sided anti-Israel resolutions have been a recurring challenge at UNESCO since 2009,” Vasquez continued, “and in all such circumstances, the United States has blocked consensus on such resolutions by calling for a vote and voting against the texts.”
