Reuters says that the agency will also investigate ten more Immigration Service sites. The case concerns at least 8,500 asylum decisions.
Bremen to stop processing asylum applications because of bribery – even more than a thousand bought asylum
Bremen may have made over a thousand unjustified positive asylum decisions.
THE GERMAN state of Bremen will stop the processing of asylum applications, local authorities said on Wednesday, according to Reuters news agency.
The decision was made because more than 1,000 unjustified positive asylum decisions were made in Bremen between 2013 and 2016. According to the German Ministry of the Interior, the state has deliberately been disregarding regulations for asylum applications.
Previously, in April, there were suspicions of wrongdoing only to the then leader of the Bremen Immigration Service, but the list of suspects has since grown.
“The confidence in the quality of asylum practices and the Bremen reception center’s integrity has taken a serious blow,” according to Reuters , said German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.
UNFAIR asylum decisions have been made for money. German newspaper Der Spiegel told the story of a Kurdish man who bought a asylum at the turn of the week. He had received a positive decision for a thousand euros.
More than 1.6 million asylum seekers have arrived in Germany over the last four years. Immigration is a very controversial subject in Germany.
