Wanted to murder (non-Muslim) women…
Finnish prosecutors have announced the charges for Abderrahman Bouanane, a Moroccan citizen suspected of stabbing several people in central Turku last August.
He will be tried on two counts of murder with terrorist intent and eight counts of attempted murder with terrorist intent, with the trial preliminary hearings in the case expected to begin this spring. The case will be heard by a panel of three judges, with the location yet to be determined.
Two people died and eight others were injured in the attack. Investigators say Bouanane considered himself a soldier of ISIS, but was radicalised only shortly before the attack took place.
The accused has not at any point denied responsibility for the attacks, but has not yet indicated any clear view on whether there was a terror motive.
The accused has undergone psychiatric evaluation, but the results of that evaluation have not been made public.
