The investigation by the Border Guard of South East Finland of the organizing of serious illegal immigration will be prosecuted by the Salpausselkä Prosecutor’s Office.
The border guards of South East Finland have investigated during the summer of this year serious illegal entry into the country, where a predominantly Russian criminal organization is suspected of organizing dozens of people in the Schengen area and in Finland.
On the basis of the preliminary investigation, the criminal group utilized the Schengen system guaranteeing free movement and asylum seekers in the target countries. Due to this investigation, a person in a leading position in a criminal organization has been in detention and on remand since the end of July.
Extensive national and international co-operation was involved, by Europol, Interpol and national law enforcement agencies in Europe.
