We need to change the tune here, and fast…
I have never fallen for the ”nationalist-populist” movement proffered by the good people with whom I agree with on most political/social issues. I just never have. I believe that Mark Levin speaks for me when he lays down both the philosophy of the Conservative Movement, and the successes it has achieved over the past 15 years.
The Conservative Movement is the reflection of the US Constitution, as the Constitution is the reflection of the Enlightenment. There is no need for a ”populist-nationalist” movement that at first, second and third glance, fails to reflect anything of the above. What’s needed is a return to classical US constitutionalism, something that the Tea Party and Article V Convention of States movement delivers in full.
Steve Bannon is a decent man, and his followers are decent people as well, but I’m afraid that Bannon’s movement is just muddying up the waters when crystal clear conservatism is what’s needed, now more than ever before. Stating the case about limited government, a rational foreign policy, living within our means and advancing the cause of liberty when it serves American interests to do so, is in fact quintessential Americanism. I fail to see the wisdom and the logic in following a so called ‘movement’, that in essence, is successful only when it pushes well known conservative principles.
As Mark Levin stated on his radio show a couple of days ago, Donald Trump is not a nationalist populist politician, he’s just Trump. The president never positions himself as one, and if the congress would pass solid, rational, conservative based legislation, he would sign each and every one into law. He is though a trade protectionist, and has always been one, it’s not a wise policy, but there you have it, but he’s not a populist nationalist, and definately not leading one. Steve Bannon however, is.
Bannon: ‘It’s Now Time to Take Over’ to Build the Trump Populist Movement
Former White House chief strategist and Breitbart News executive chairman Steve Bannon told the New York Times that “it’s now time to take over” to build the Donald Trump nationalist-populist movement.
Bannon told the Times that the Donald Trump movement serves as a “revolt against a globalist that ran the Republican party and part of an elite that runs the country.”
“This will be seen as a revolt of working class people of both parties at a time that rejected the permanent political class, that is inextricably linked both Republican and Democrat in Washington, D.C. and take back their government,” Bannon added.
Bannon told the New York Times that the populist movement needs to take control of Congress. He also said that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) should resign. Bannon suggested that McConnell resign after Republicans pass a tax reform package.
